Sr. Analyst, Marketing Optimization
Primary Function:
In your role as Sr. Analyst, Marketing Optimization, you will conduct high-impact analysis to guide Grainger’s marketing operations. You will develop a deep understanding of performance drivers for each marketing channel, identify opportunities, and collaborate with a variety of internal teams (including strategy, marketing, and data science) to deliver optimization at scale.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Exploring and visualizing data to understand performance drivers of Grainger marketing channels (especially paid search, display, and email).
- Discovering and combining data sources to reach new insights.
- Developing strategies to improve marketing effectiveness, both within a single channel and across channels.
- Taking a customer perspective to ensure that our marketing is relevant and engaging.
- Supporting your recommendations with in-depth analysis, clearly communicated to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Designing tests to validate your recommendations and overseeing the execution of those tests.
- Providing requirements for predictive models to our data science team and validating model output.
- Designing systems to deliver optimization at scale.
Preferred Education & Experience:
- Masters’ or graduate degree in a quantitative field required (statistics, economics, mathematics, computer sciences, etc.) or equivalent work experience.
- 5-7 years of experience in related field preferred.
- Outstanding analytical skills; track record of making recommendations with a measurable impact on business results.
- Knowledge of database design and SQL query language.
- Experience validating the output of predictive models.
- Proficiency in coding and programming concepts (R or Python preferred).
- Experience with marketing analytics.
- Knowledge of paid search, display, and/or email marketing channels strongly preferred.
- Bias toward action; you are a great collaborator and master simplifier, constantly pushing toward clarity and delivery.
- 80/20 thinking: you prioritize high-impact work and deliver value quickly.
- Ability to analyze complex systems and identify opportunities for improvement (i.e. to make them more efficient, less error-prone, more fault-tolerant, and more scalable).
- Curiosity, enthusiasm, positive attitude and passion to build. Willingness to learn and research new concepts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate concepts between technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience writing technical requirements.
- Experience presenting business cases at the executive level; ability to “sell” an idea.
- Outstanding and proven project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects in a high-pressure, tight-deadline environment.
