the job

We are currently hiring a Linux Systems Administrator to join our growing technical team in Chicago. This role will be responsible for in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Linux and Windows servers, for our 1500+ employee organization.

responsibilities

• Supporting a hybrid Windows/Linux environment. Currently environment is 70% Windows and 30% Linux so some Windows administration will be required.
• Performing hands-on administration of Linux and Windows servers and coordinating systems activities
• Furnishing the organization with data security, reliability and accessibility
• Maintaining operating software, including OS as well as applications
• Closely controlling the production environment to ensure stability and uptime
• Ongoing documentation of systems and team collaboration
• Performing data back-ups and planning for capacity growth as well as providing system performance tuning
• Monitoring networks and security including event logs, messages and alerts
• Ensuring stability and maintaining system up time 99.99%
• Participating in on-call rotation covering emergency and scheduled maintenance during off hours
• Additional off hours availability will be required as needed
• Coordinating and interfacing with multiple business units and aggressively following-up on details

requirements

• Bachelor Degree in related discipline or equivalent experience
• 1-2 years of experience supporting Windows and Linux Servers in a medium to large scale environment
• Experience with Linux server operating systems (Ubuntu, CentOS)
• Experience with Apache, Tomcat
• Experience with Linux configuration and patch management platforms (Ansible, Spacewalk Preferred)
• Experience with Microsoft Active Directory, IIS, Lync, SCCM
• Experience with Windows Server Operating Systems
• Experience with Virtualization Platforms (VMware or Hyper-V)
• Experience with monitoring software (Orion preferred)
• Experience with O365/Azure
• Experience with Backup Software (Commvault preferred)
• Familiarity with networking – Switches, Firewalls, WAN, LAN, & VPN
• Experience with SAN Technologies – 3Par, NetApp etc.
• Experience with HP Proliant hardware
• Scripting on Windows and Linux
• Ability to diagnose service problems and understand and manage complex systems
• Detail oriented, strong communication skills and a proactive team member
• Entrepreneurial minded with an internal drive to continuously hit goals and succeed.
• Linux Certifications a plus
