Sr Manager Enterprise Systems / IT
This position is responsible for:
Managing the Portfolio Manager I resources assigned to the ES (IT) team, responsible for performance management, career development, process standardization and enforcement.
Building relationships across multiple ES portfolios to ensure Portfolio Managers have a good understanding of career opportunities and growth.
Helps manage the Portfolio Management Community of Practice – A community of practice is an internal group of Sr Managers from all portfolios that works collaboratively on defining portfolio management best practices and tools.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for managing a team of Portfolio Manager I resources in an assigned portfolio area.
- Works with assigned resources to build individual development plans, provide career mentoring and coaching.
- Leads team members to an optimal team member experience and environment which includes demonstration of leadership capabilities in feedback, development, attraction, selection and retention of talent.
- Leads resources to ensure that portfolio outcomes are per specifications and stakeholder expectations.
- Participates in and helps guide the Grainger Portfolio management Community of Practice.
- Helps drive portfolio management best practices and standards across the entire portfolio management team.
- Responsible for staying current on portfolio management practices and techniques including change management efforts.
- Identifies opportunities for process improvement and works with portfolio managers and peers to remove roadblocks and to drive consistency.
- Develops resource allocation plans, evaluating workload across portfolio managers and assigning team members to Delivery teams.
- Modifies plans as appropriate based on evolving demand from business units.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCES AND COMPETENCIES:
- BA/BS in Computer Science or similar subject or equivalent experience preferred.
- 7 - 10 years of related experience.
- Strong background in program and portfolio management, information aggregation, process rollout and operational change management across large teams.
- Demonstrated experience in process governance and in continuous improvement.
- Proven leadership ability that manifests itself in quickly earning sponsorship and key stakeholder trust; mobilizing and motivating teams; setting direction and approach; resolving conflict; delivering tough messages with grace; ability to influence higher levels in the organization; executing with limited information and ambiguity.
- Must have a proactive, results oriented attitude, lead by the example of serving others, and have a superb work ethic and flexibility to work within an environment of constant change.
- Ability to identify issues and risks across many teams, proposing solutions and understanding when to escalate to leadership.
