RoomIt by CWT is looking for a talented PR and Social Media Specialist to support PR initiatives and drive engagement and following across social media channels.  Located in our brand new downtown Chicago office, RoomIt is the recently launched technology-driven Hotel Distribution business by Carlson Wagonlit Travel.  This is your chance to get in on the ground floor of this exciting new business and to help shape our future.

This future “RoomIter” will have a successful record of supporting communications spanning PR, social media and influencer communications.  With a true passion for storytelling, you get excited to help shape the brand’s image and drive engagement.  You know how to amplify the brand voice and can propel stories and content across channels.  Of course, you keep up-to-date on the latest digital and social media trends. 

Main Responsibilities

Public Relations

• Writes and edits press and communications materials including press releases, fact sheets, talking points, key messaging documents, press pitches, thought-leadership content as well as ghost-writes comments for executives.

• Manage speakers bureau including identifying speaking opportunities, drafting and submitting abstracts, identify company spokespersons and managing messaging documents.

• Researches and gathers information to write original content including articles, blog posts and infographics.

• Continually monitors the industry for emerging trends

• Pursues relevant media connections, influencers and contacts to build a network of people to distribute RoomIt news.

• Liaise with corporate PR teams to identify and track meaningful metrics including engagement, impressions, share of voice and sentiment. 

Social Media

• Develops and evolves the RoomIt social media strategy and create an editorial calendar to keep presence on channels fresh and relevant.

• Manages the day-to-day activities of social media channels including developing, publishing and sharing engaging content to drive engagement, grow audience reach and inspire our followers to speak our behalf. 

• Tracks and analyzes social media conversations across various platforms.

• Monitors channels and responds to comments as appropriate and in timely manner. 

• Engage with influencers and bloggers to amplify the RoomIt story to relevant markets.

• Develops successful backlink strategy

• Develops in-depth knowledge of the RoomIt business, products and target audiences to effectively develop communications that are relevant, contextual and timely.

• Performs other duties as assigned

• Travel may be up to 20%

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, English or related communications discipline

• 3 - 5 years in communications and social media

• Superb creative copywriting skills, including editing and proofing, and the ability to identify story topics, researches for supporting facts and develops relevant stories.

• Strong knowledge of social media and techniques to build social media following.  Familiarity with SEO is helpful.

• Proven experience writing for different audiences and in different voices.

• Understanding of AP style

• Strong attention to detail and excellent project management skills. 

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.

• A “roll up your sleeves” attitude to help wherever you’re needed

• We will be looking for 2-3 writing samples

Bonus if you also have:

• Experience in hotel / travel industry

• Experience with an international organization

• Experience in high-growth start-ups
