Job Description

PhysIQ is looking for a Director of Cloud Production Operations who will be responsible for the company's overall direction, strategy and support for the Production Cloud hosting environment and automation tools. This role is the primary contact and leader for maintaining a stable, efficient, and secure multi-tenant cloud-based infrastructure. Successfully fulfilling this role will involve an understanding of enterprise that involves architecture, technology vendor selection/management, project management, product and release management, and cybersecurity experience.

Ideal candidates must possess deep, practical experience in cloud architecture, cloud migrations, cloud migration support, and practical expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Amazon Web Services (AWS). Clearly architecting and implementing roadmaps to a successful improved future state is crucial, as well as communication to key stakeholders and physIQ leadership.

Responsibilities

· Responsible for and advocates for the corporate enterprise cloud strategy, advancing standards and best practices associated with all aspects of the Cloud platform

· Build leading-edge solutions in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Amazon Web Services (AWS)

· Develop and manage the cloud production platform as a 24/7 NOC

· Work with internal teams and vendors/partners to develop and refine the software platform development process, contributing cross-functional technical and product expertise, anticipating and removing impediments, providing escalation management, anticipating and making tradeoffs, and balancing business needs with technical constraints

· Contribute to and supports the corporate Enterprise Cloud strategy, standards and best practices associated with all aspects Cloud offerings

· Build leading-edge solutions in Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS)

· Contribute to and support the corporate adoption of a process-based DevOps methodology and Agile project management

· Provide support, participate, and lead Cloud/LAN/WAN, security projects, penetration tests and 3rd-party certifications and tasks

· Define network strategy and associated architecture, factoring in a multi-cloud tenant enablement environment

· Ensure technology solutions are aligned to application frameworks and the technology product roadmap

· Collaborate with, manage, and mentor cloud/network/voice engineers, production operators, and team members

· Provide expert level design and engineering support towards the successful delivery of IT’s cloud project portfolio physIQ’s cloud platform

· Leverage our career progression framework to develop engineering talent within the team and actively manage the performance of individual contributors

· Lead a team of 4-6 operators, engineers, and security experts

· Contribute towards continual service improvement activities related to the delivery of cloud production/platform services

· Develop and implement internal systems, processes, and best practices to be used by other teams designed to increase productivity

· Participate in deep architectural discussions to ensure solutions are designed for successful deployment, security, cost effectiveness and high availability in the cloud

· Design, implement, and test disaster recovery and business continuity architecture

· Create and implement automation in the form of infrastructure as code for cloud platform solutions

· Ensure all infrastructure components meet proper performance and capacity standards

· Provide proactive maintenance, including periodic review of infrastructure to ensure compliance with standards with the premise of identifying and resolving problems before and issue occurs

· Work with rest of the members of the Enterprise Infrastructure team to help define and make recommendations on activities related to the design, development and maintenance of infrastructure strategies, processes, methodologies and modules

· Stay abreast of architectural/technology/industry changes, especially in the areas of cloud technologies

· Participate in efforts to develop departmental strategies

· Use your experience, deep technical knowledge, and creativity to simplify development of security controls, tooling and infrastructure provisioning workflows

· Work with other Engineering Leads to produce design artifacts that describe software security architectures involving multiple systems and technologies

· Adopt, contribute, and spread practices and norms that achieve well designed systems, maintainable code, and productive teams

· Actively drive team improvement through retrospectives and other team activities

· Create blueprint using best practices from AWS, GCP, or other cloud platforms to design and deploy architecture

· Create migration plans and strategies for seamless implementation of cloud architecture

· Demonstrate knowledge of cloud architecture and implementation features

· Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to the organization for end-to-end architecture in the cloud

· Demonstrate leadership ability to back decisions with research and reference to best practices

· Maintain overall industry knowledge on latest trends and best practices

· Drive scope definition, requirement analysis, design, configuration, testing, and production deployment

· Provide insights analysis for Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)

· Monitor progress, identify risks and challenges, and define mitigation plans

· Troubleshoot, debug, fix issues that arise in solution, architecture, implementation, and setup and implementation

Required Skills

· You've got a few years of experience managing software engineering teams, and can lead technical analysis and design, evaluate tradeoffs, and champion best practices

· You’ve built an excellent team of technical operators, knowing how to recruit, onboard, train, and develop top-line team members

· You're an experienced and devoted Scrum Master who’s worked in fast-paced agile environments, helped keep projects on track, and unblocked your team more times than you can count

· You have experience managing cloud infrastructure in AWS, GCP, Azure, or similar (physIQ uses AWS and GCP)

· You have built and deployed containerized applications and services to Kubernetes (e.g., GKE, EKS)

· You’ve executed a number of cybersecurity improvement projects and know the difference between ISO standards, HIPAA regulations, and SOC-2 controls

· You’ve worked in a process-oriented organization, using ITIL, CoBIT and/or other commonly known frameworks to manage production operations

· You understand the challenges and appreciate the rewards of a multi-tenant, distributed, and event-based architecture

· You enjoy automating manual tasks and can spot manual tasks ripe for optimization and/or automation

· You have worked in agile fluid environments and are comfortable iterating quickly

· You enjoy collaborating and communicating with team members of varying skill sets and from different fields

Nice to Have

· Experience with one of the many infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform (our favorite)

· Experience with systems design and enterprise architecture

· Proficiency with Python, Go, or another programming language

· Solicit feedback across Engineering and Product teams to identify pain points and problem areas when working with the production infrastructure, and recommend solutions for them

· Previous experience in the healthcare sector and securing infrastructure to standards or compliance frameworks such as HIPAA, HITRUST, NIST, or ISO
