Product Design Director

Fully Remote role

About the role

We're looking for a Product Design Director to help lead and grow our product design team.  You’ll be responsible for a team of designers while driving the strategic direction of SpotOn’s products through collaboration with other cross-functional leaders.  You’ll also help build processes and documentation to enable success and scalability within the design team.

About the team

You'll be a key leader within SpotOn’s design team, which is part of the larger product team.  You’ll specifically own design for our cross-platform consumer-facing products and work with a location-distributed team across the US, Mexico, and Poland.  You’ll collaborate with other leaders across the organization, including (but not limited to) another design director (leading our merchant-facing products), product directors, program managers, engineering directors, and the executive leadership team.  You'll report directly to a VP of Product Design, and be part of our team of 20+ designers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage performance and growth of 10+ designers
  • Drive strategic initiatives across the organization through partnership with other cross-functional leaders (e.g. product, engineering, product marketing, analytics)
  • Create scalable processes, structure, and documentation within the team; build and grow design capabilities and knowledge across the organization
  • Evangelize design thinking across all capabilities and increase design maturity within the organization
  • Drive increase in hypothesis-driven experimentation and data-driven decision making
  • Utilize quantitative and qualitative research/data to inform decision making and problem solving

 What you'll need

  • 4+ years of product design management experience
  • 8-10 years of experience in a product design role with demonstrable proficiency owning design across the software development lifecycle, from early-stage ideation all the way through shipping products and/or major features
  • Experience designing across web, iOS and Android
  • Fluency in UX, visual design, and user research
  • Experience building and scaling a design system
  • Experience working with Figma, Sketch, XD, or related design tools (we use Figma)
  • Good communication and collaboration skills (especially in a remote environment)

Bonus points

  • Experience shipping products with microinteractions and engaging animations
  • Degree in related field
