Working directly with the Partners, the Chief Financial Officer will oversee all financial operations, planning, and strategy. The desired candidate should be a strategic thinker with experience helping companies scale from start-up through growth phases. In addition to developing big picture strategy, the candidate must be highly analytical with strong attention to detail in overseeing financial controls, reporting, and operations. The candidate must be able to work in a collaborative, fast-paced, and deadline driven environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills and strong management skills are required.

This position will be based in Chicago, IL or Washington, D.C. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Strategy

• Direct all financial planning and strategy
• Prepare forecasts of financial performance for short-term and long-term
• Advise partners on business strategy and decision making – such as strategic growth plans or acquisitions

Financial Operations and Accounting

• Oversee all financial operations and accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash flow, reporting and analysis, tax planning, and internal audit
• Design and implement accounting practices and procedures, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles

Financial Reporting

• Prepare system of reports of financial performance on regular basis for review by partners

Financial Controls and Risk Management

• Design and implement updated system of financial controls and risk management
• Oversee reconciliation process for all accounts
• Ensure that company meets all financial statutory requirements

Team Management

• Source and manage finance team members, as needed

• Bachelor’s Degree required, CPA or MBA preferred
• Strategic thought leader with experience with moving companies from start-up through growth phase
• Forecasting, modeling capabilities
• Has managed growth through acquisitions and strategic growth
• Strong management experience
• Understanding of both cash-based and accrual-based accounting
• Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
• Sense of humor and eagerness to contribute new ideas very important
