Director, Digital Manufacturing Commons, DMDII

The Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute (DMDII) is the nation’s flagship research organization for applying cutting-edge digital technologies to reduce the time and cost of manufacturing and strengthen the capabilities of the U.S. supply chain.  The DMDII will develop, demonstrate, deploy and commercialize digital design and manufacturing technologies across key industries.

The Digital Manufacturing Commons (DMC) is an industrial commons and online marketplace for workflow collaboration and business transactions, bringing together thousands of subject matter experts (SMEs), manufacturing companies, software providers, research institutes, and universities to collaborate on manufacturing and to accelerate technologies that integrate the elements of the digital thread.  The DMC is a unique approach to digital design and manufacturing that will integrate data sharing from the engineer’s desk to the shop floor manager to machine data and part maintenance.  The DMC will allow transactions and collaboration to occur around the design and manufacturing of a part or assembly, integrating a comprehensive 3D technical data package (TDP) across the product lifecycle.

The DMDII is seeking candidates for the position of DMC Director.  The DMC Director is responsible for the development and maintenance of the DMC, including oversight of all DMC development projects, site administration, requirements management and security.  The DMD Director will work with other elements of the Institute, including Research and Development, Technology Transition and Workforce Development, to ensure that the DMC includes functionality necessary for the successful execution of their initiatives.  It is anticipated that DMC development will follow an agile software development process.
