Director of Platform Operations

 

Vail is a software engineering company that develops its own technology to produce innovative solutions for customers. As Director of Platform Operations you would lead a team in supporting the voice needs of Fortune 500 enterprise customers, including state-of-the-art IP telephony, IVR, call routing, contact center integrations, and cutting edge real-time analytics, as well as other research initiatives. Vail Platform Operations implements, maintains, monitors, designs, and secures systems and voice platforms with the strong high-availability requirements of a carrier-grade hosting environment.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Platform Operations team, responsible for managing production Linux servers that are part of a 24x7 carrier-grade voice platform. This includes patching, OS upgrades, maintenance, application/platform deployments, tier II and III trouble-shooting and issue escalations, on-call teams, etc.
  • Operationalize new application and platform components, infrastructure, and critical systems.
  • Create and maintain system administrative documentation and procedures.
  • Work with other departments on collaborative efforts and to facilitate requests that require participation of the Platform Operations team.
  • Participate on project teams in delivering and designing solutions.
  • Troubleshoot problems with Linux Servers that are part of the 24x7 carrier-grade voice platforms (sometimes in customer facing situations).
  • Oversee system performance, capacity planning, etc.
  • Maintain compliance with security standards such as PCI and HIPAA.
  • Work with vendors for solutions to issues with third party applications.
  • Utilize agile tools such as JIRA to lead projects and manage operational workloads.
  • Evaluate new technologies and solutions. Develop migration strategies when switching to new technologies.
  • Ensure SLA compliance.
  • Hire and train staff.

 

Qualifications

  • 8 or more years of experience in Linux/UNIX system administration, 5 or more years in a management/leadership position.
  • Proven responsibility for managing server environments with strong high-availability requirements.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with configuration management systems, such as Salt and Puppet.
  • Scripting knowledge in one or more of the following languages: Shell (bash, zsh, etc.), Perl, Python.
  • Experience with agile workflow development and using agile tools such as JIRA for management of system administrative teams.
  • Experience with virtualization and container architecture.
  • Docker experience preferred.
  • Expert-level knowledge in multiple areas/systems.
