JELLYVISION NEEDS A DIRECTOR OF SALES OPERATIONS

Founded by the creator of the YOU DON'T KNOW JACK® game series, The Jellyvision Lab, Inc. creates virtual teachers, advisors, and salespeople who make online learning and decision making delightful.  In all that we do, our goal is to make complex topics simple and boring material interesting, using a combination of great design, unexpectedly funny content, and serious technology.

Of all the virtual people Jellyvision has created, the tallest and least afraid of bears is ALEX® (www.meetalex.com). ALEX helps companies talk their employees through the tricky choices they’ll have to make, like picking a health insurance plan, deciding how much to put in the 401(k), or whether they might want extra life insurance. Our customers love ALEX because ALEX helps their employees figure out what’s best for their personal situations, which, in turn, saves our customers a boat-load of time and money - everybody wins!  As we sell more and more of ALEX, we need more and more non-virtual (i.e., real life) people to keep the virtual ones amazing. That’s where you come in.

 THAT’S LOVELY… BUT WHAT’S THE JOB?

The Director of Sales Ops is a first of its kind role at Jellyvision, and it will be a critical one. At the highest level, the Director of Sales Ops will ensure the smooth and predictable functioning of a sales group that now numbers 50 (and is growing rapidly!). This role will report to the SVP of Sales and cover all things related to the sales process (both the high-level and the details), including analyzing, projecting and reporting accurate pipelines, establishing and enforcing best practice sales-related process flows and use of Salesforce.com, and solidifying the flow of information between sales, marketing, finance and the executive leadership team. This job is a mix of pioneer, analyst, leader and process policeperson (a benevolent one!). We told you this was a critical role.

We see the job breaking down into the following buckets:

1. Forecast management (both past and forward looking).

Helping us know where we are and see where we’re going for both new sales and renewals, by providing process, controls, and reports to the leadership team, in partnership with our finance team.

2. Sales enablement – helping our large and growing team of awesome BDRs, Account Executives, and Customer Success Managers do their best work, with the right infrastructure, process, and support – and as little nonsense red tape as possible.

  • Sales process development and improvement (including playbooks), in partnership with the SVP of Sales
  • Sales process enforcement (helping reps play by the rules)
  • Territory mapping and management – a current sore spot for us.  We want territories to be more fairly and fluidly defined and managed as we grow.
  • Process planning with marketing to make sure inbound campaigns are well coordinated and inbound leads followed up on quickly and with care and flair.
  • Owning the team that manages Salesforce, setting up the rules and fields in Salesforce that help us with visibility and predictability, and give us the data we need to make smarter decisions moving forward.
  • Managing vendor relationships (Salesforce and others) and adding new tools to our repertoire, as needed, to help us run as effectively and efficiently as possible.
  • Pricing tool stewardship and coordination with our deal desk, currently managed by our Finance and Legal teams.

3. Data Stewardship and Analysis

  • Digging into our sales data, interpreting it, and sharing the implications of what you find with the Executive Team and across the company.
  • Helping us make better sales plans moving forward, based on what your data analysis suggests will be best for our business.

SO WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR IN A DIRECTOR OF SALES OPS?

We’re looking for an awesome, experienced Director of Sales Ops who knows sales process and Salesforce.com like the back of your hand.  Bonus points if you’ve done it for an enterprise SaaS software company.  In a nutshell, we’re looking for someone who is:

  •  A "quanty", analytical data junkie who is also a dot connector. We need someone who can look at the data and see both the status quo and the implications, both the “what” and the “so what.”
  • A bridge builder.  While we need processes and controls, we need someone who can operate from a perspective that gives individuals the benefit of the doubt and who aspires to collaborate vs. control.
  • A great leader of people and team builder.  While there will be some autonomous work, we anticipate that we’re behind on hiring salesforce admins for our large team, so we will look to you to help define, hire, and manage the team who assists us with more efficiently managing data, workflows, and processes.
  • Entrepreneurial.  There isn’t a playbook for this position.  We need someone who can come in, learn the lay of the land, and create one from scratch for us, and then constantly reassess and evolve as our rapidly growing business does, too.  Being a lifelong student who wants to learn more, explore, test, and try something new will serve you (and us!) well.
  • Always sweating the details.  Attention to detail to the extreme.  You’re someone who will dig in, uncover, and own ALL the finer points of our sales data. You will be doing critical analyses from which decisions are made.  From Excel modeling to PowerPoint decks to curiously digging into raw numbers, you need an eye for sniffing out errors or anomalies in the data to do better work. You should be someone interested in constantly improving the accuracy and visual presentation of your work.
  • Self-motivated.  This goes hand in hand with the “entrepreneurial” point above, but it’s worth reiterating.  We are not a micromanage-y organization, so a self-driven, smart, hard working, curious and motivated individual will do quite well with this role.
  • Honest and kind and funny.  It won’t only make you more successful here; it also makes for a more pleasant workforce for the rest of us.

AND WHAT KINDS OF EXPERIENCE SHOULD YOU HAVE?

  •  5+ years of Sales Ops experience, ideally at an organization with more than 50 people in sales.
  • Significant experience establishing and evaluating sales strategies and processes at the enterprise level.
  • Experience with predictive modeling, A/B testing, and database management, and, not surprisingly, mastery/power user status of Salesforce.com.
  • Proven sales chops in an employee benefits, corporate communications or enterprise software arena, selling into large companies – and a track record of significantly increasing sales year over year.

     ANYTHING ELSE?

Yes. We share a commitment to excellence and a desire to work in a comfortable, friendly atmosphere, so we only hire nice, bright, funny people who are willing to work hard.  Our credo is a simple one: be helpful. And we think we can be most helpful if our workforce is as diverse in thought, perspective, and culture as the people who use our products. We are looking to add amazing folks to our team who will bring diversity across many lines, including race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, gender identity, sex, and country of origin.

    ARE THERE ANY PERKS?

    Yes, we love perks.

    • Competitive pay, 401(k) with matching, stock options and benefits.  We pay 100% of the cost of premiums for medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance for our employees (as long as you qualify for our tobacco-free discount; if you’re a tobacco user, your medical premiums will be higher than $0). We also cover a really nice chunk of the cost of premiums for spouse/partner/dependent medical, dental and vision insurance.
    • Casual dress and a flexible schedule. Come in a sweatshirt, jeans, whatever, like everyone else here.
    • Creative work environment. We are lucky to work in a place that is full of intelligent, talented and innovative folks. Although most hours the place is deathly quiet (we're a focused bunch), this is punctuated with hilarious outbursts and general merriment, which makes a nice way to spend the day.
    • Free food. Every week, we stock our kitchen with free healthy snack foods, and we have a catered lunch once a week to give people a reason to hang out and eat together.
    • Easy transportation. We’re really close to the 'L' and the Halsted (#8) bus (right by the Apple Store and Mega Whole Foods too), and we have a transit FSA that allows you to dedicate pre-tax dollars to public transportation expenses. And a number of our employees like to bike to work, so we also have showers and lockers in the office.
    • Did we mention our yoga class? We bring a pro instructor right to the office. Fully subsidized by Jellyvision and fully optional, btw.
    • Oh! And we have a massage chair. Not just any massage chair, my friend. It’s the HumanTouch HT 5320 WholeBody™ Massage Chair. Feeling a little stiff? Sit down. Relax. Feel better? Good. Okay, back to work.

      AND HOW DO I APPLY?

We look forward to hearing about you and what you do. Make sure your application includes:

      • cover letter that highlights 3 reasons you think you’d be great for the gig. Writing is key to all we do, and we weigh cover letters heavily – especially for a senior leadership role like this.
      • Your resume

You will receive an auto-reply confirming that we've received your application.

If you decide to apply, please know that every complete application will be carefully reviewed. Seriously! We know it is a time commitment to prepare an application. And we respect that effort by thoughtfully reviewing every complete application and responding one way or the other. But that kind of thoughtful review means that it sometimes takes us awhile to get back to applicants, so please NO PHONE CALLS. The time we spend responding to phone calls and emails inquiring about where we are in the process is time that we could be spending actually moving the process along, so please be patient with us.  We know that folks in sales organizations have it drilled in to them to follow up, but trust us on this one.

Thanks for your interest in Jellyvision!

An Insider's view of Jellyvision

How would you describe the company’s work-life balance?

When the company culture from top-down is set to take accountability and pride in your work, when leadership trusts and empowers employees to do the right thing and gives them flexibility as Jellyvision does, it motivates employees to give their very best to the organization. Work-Life Balance is not just a buzzword at Jellyvision.

Rajal

Senior Product Management, Benefits Engagement

How do you collaborate with other teams in the company?

If I’m coordinating, I absolutely love ending a meeting by summarizing action items any teams are accountable for before everyone leaves. Especially with so much information to keep track of, it helps me to pinpoint the important bits. Making sure there is clarity all around is the best and most efficient way that I can collaborate with teams.

Ashleigh

Talent Sourcer

What makes someone successful on your team?

Our team scales across Jellyvision, with a mix of curiosity, humility, and helpfulness. We willingly lean in to support the products that help people protect their health and well-being. And while a wicked sense of humor is in no way a requirement, we’ve lucked out with truly interesting, funny folks.

Chrissy

SVP Product Marketing

What unique initiatives do you have that encourage innovation?

Implementation is a team of ballers, constantly impressing me with new ideas. Our most recent ideas are new classes around Professional Development and a pilot approach to quickly implement customers. These ideas came from folks on the team. When my coworkers have these ideas, my job is to give them the support and resources to run with them.

Alex

SVP of Customer Operations
