Head of Marketing and Content
Built In is a network of online communities that has quickly become the #1 recruitment solution for tech companies and startups in six major tech markets. The company currently operates six sites in Chicago (BuiltInChicago.com), Los Angeles (BuiltInLA.com), Colorado (BuiltInColorado.com), Austin (BuiltInAustin.com), NYC (BuiltInNYC.com) and Boston (BuiltInBoston.com), and is headquartered in Chicago.
We have aggressive growth plans and need someone to take a lead role in creating and managing a global content strategy while also focusing on marketing efforts. This person will lead stellar teams to strategize, imagine, make, manage, distribute, measure and continuously improve relentlessly creative, gotta-interact-with content experiences for the communities and customers we serve. With heart and soul. We keep it real, local, surpass expectations and deliver the results that matter most to top talent. Editorial and paid content, BtoB, and BtoC.
Responsibilities
Develop and manage a global content strategy that drives the following: Built In's brand awareness, website traffic, lead-generation efforts, user and customer acquisition and retention.
Collaborate with many different internal teams — including product, sales, etc. — to create interesting and engaging content which accomplishes defined business goals.
Build and lead a strategy which brings together both editorial and paid content so they work seamlessly and effortlessly together toward one common goal.
Chief Quality Officer: re-imagine the Built In voice and brand and devise a plan to get us there with high quality, unique and scalable content.
Develop analytic standards and actionable insights to properly evaluate, evolve, and improve Built In's overall content marketing efforts and to hire and manage the team effectively.
Define and drive marketing strategy across multiple disciplines, including but not limited to branded content, product marketing, email marketing and customer evangelism.
Qualifications
10-15+ years of digital communications, journalism, marketing experience
Strong leadership skills and extensive experience managing a team: flexible and humble personality who thrives on change while remaining highly organized and optimistic. 'Lead by example' is our motto here. High energy and contagious enthusiasm help.
Editorial skills and standards: an excellent communicator (written, verbal, and visual) that can turn complex concepts into clear, jargon-free narratives
Solid grasp of SEO, paid social, organic social media marketing, online media, web technology, email marketing, community and creative and brand strategy.
Substantial experience with Google Analytics, content management systems and digital and social analytics tools
Multimedia Savvy: elevate and inspire us with unique content formats so we can stay one step ahead of our tech savvy audience. We're not looking to be average.
A+ player: highly-organized, self-starter who is capable of balancing and executing on multiple priorities, projects and deadlines
Communication: ability to speak and write clearly, concisely, and compellingly. Honesty, transparency, and thoughtfulness are a must. Ability to present complex messages to multiple levels of an organization and survey for needs without relying on presentation decks.
Interest in the tech industry: you must be passionate about three things: (1) Startups (2) Building innovative tech products and services; and (3) Helping others. This is what we do. This is non-negotiable.
