IT Operations Engineer

The Role: Technical operation plays a critical role in modern software development and engineering. It is an integral part of the software development life cycle. We are seeking a technical operations engineer to join the growing Morningstar Technology Operations team. In this role, you will have opportunities not only to utilize your coding skills and automation expertise to program and tune IT operations tools but also to provide strategic technical guidance to our development teams with regard to IT operations. This position is based in our Chicago office.
Responsibilities
+ Evaluate, select, and own a wide variety of technologies and tools
+ Establish and advocate for best practice in technical operations
+ Write and execute scripts/tasks for application/infrastructure/server monitoring and event management
+ Set up and maintain technical operations tools including but not limited to BMC TrueSight, BMC Remedy, AppDynamics, Keynote, and CatchPoint.
+ Work with multiple software development teams internationally to address issues and improve quality
+ Research on and establish best practice for infrastructure and application monitoring in Amazon computing cloud
Requirements
+ A bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering or related fields is required; a master degree is preferred
+ Working knowledge of IT operations practices; ITIL certification a plus
+ Passionate about staying current on trends and best practices in IT operations tooling
+ Experience with and knowledge about Amazon Web Service preferred
+ Knowledge of technical operations tools (BMC TrueSight, BMC Remedy, AppDynamic, Keynote, and CatchPoint) is a plus
+ Programing experience/skills in at least one of the following programing languages: Java, C++/C, C#, Python, PHP, Ruby, or PowerShell, etc.
+ Working knowledge of Linux and Windows
+ Comfortable with collaboration, open communication and reaching across
functional borders
+ Excellent problem solving, analytical, and communication skills
+ Strong self-motivation, and the ability to work effectively with limited guidance when necessary
+ Experience with and/or knowledge of Amazon Cloud a plus.
