Operations Engineer, Enterprise Components

The Role: We are seeking an operations engineer with technical production support experience. This position will be part of an engineering team focused on updating Morningstar’s Web-based product suite and its administrative systems. The position includes monitoring and supporting application web components and working closely with the development team on system maintenance. Candidates should be able to sift through application logs, work on root cause analysis and identify areas to mitigate production issues. You will work with other engineers to setup system monitoring and escalation procedures to deliver high availability for the platform. A successful candidate will be able to play an active role in managing the prioritization of work to meet project goals. This position is based in our Chicago office.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor web application components throughout the working day including market data, portfolio planning and research
- Assist in testing new software, installing updates and setup monitoring
- Review application logs to identify issues and work with the development team to mitigate any risks
- Understand system dependencies well and engage with service partners to quickly resolve incidents
- Provide excellent customer service by responding to and efficiently resolving client issues and requests
- Setting up new systems/hardware
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or similar in a technical discipline with strong academic credentials
- Pro-active, flexible and creative engineer
- Ability to work in a demanding environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills which are necessary to work with team members and clients
- Solid working knowledge of Windows operating system
- Knowledgeable in Linux, AppDynamics and Splunk
- Understanding of IP communications and technologies is desirable
- Experience with Amazon Web Services is desirable
- Documentation skills and organizational skills are key
- Some programming knowledge in HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Java or .NET is desirable
- Experience with monitoring production systems and any experience in the financial, trading and investment industry is a plus
- Knowledge of release engineering including build and deploy automation is a plus
