Home Chef is looking for a proactive, passionate, media-savvy individual to lead our public relations efforts. The Public Relations Director will be responsible for helping grow awareness and demand for Home Chef’s meal kit service. This person will own all aspects of public relations and work closely with various Home Chef departments.
Responsibilities
Lead Communications Strategy and Planning:
- Develop an overarching public relations strategy that will amplify Home Chef awareness and our brand story amongst consumer, trade, tech and business media
- Develop a robust and innovative engagement plan and activate key relationships with media, digital influencers and other relevant partners
- Work with stakeholders across the organization to develop communications strategies related to new product and service improvements
- Develop and manage a PR calendar in partnership and alignment with our marketing calendar
Develop and Deploy Communications:
- Develop and deliver clear, engaging, persuasive and on-brand messaging
- Identify external channels and partners to collaborate with to tell the Home Chef story
- Partner with Marketing team to maximize Home Chef content, partnerships and promotions
- Manage external agency partners
- Respond to in-bound PR and media relations requests
- Develop and maintain press collateral
- Partner with Home Chef leadership on messaging needs, including external speaking events
- Provide direction and writing support to internal communications as needed
- Assist in media training of employees as needed
- Measure, analyze and report on our PR activity
- Monitor and provide recommendations related to key trends in the industry and with consumers
Qualifications
- Communications/Media Relations
- Strong communication skills—both written and verbal
- Strong connections and relationships with key members of the media and digital influencers that are best suited to tell the Home Chef story
- Ability to proactively ideate, develop and lead all aspects of PR, partnering with Marketing and other key internal stakeholders
- Proven success in brand storytelling for consumer company
- Strong existing relationships with key media outlets and ability to develop and sustain new relationships
- Project Management Skills:
- Responsible attitude, confidence, autonomy, attention to details and the ability to proactively develop communications plans and content
- Easily move between solo work as well as team collaboration
- Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner while balancing time, multi-tasking and interruptions
- Creative:
- Ability to develop fresh, innovative and creative ideas
- Excellent writing ability, both business and creative
Experience
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college in Communications or relevant field
- 7+ years of experience in public relations or media relations at a brand or agency (preferably both)
- A track record of securing media coverage around press release announcements and keeping brands relevant through ongoing evergreen coverage
- Food industry experience a plus
- Experience with consumer-focused brand or start-up preferred
