Solutions Engineer: Mission Rail

The Solutions Engineer Role:
As a member of the Mission Rail team, you will collaborate with a smart, motivated group to define and implement large, complex, industry-advancing solutions based on Uptake’s technologies.
Whether the solution is a real-time model that uses petabytes of sensor data to anticipate locomotive failures, a task management system that makes repair shops safer and more efficient, or a mobile app that brings the power of machine learning to the most remote locations, your work will drive our customers’ success.

- Collaborate with client stakeholders to define problems, clarify business context and quantify potential opportunities.
- Develop a deep understanding of your clients’ operations and be the subject matter expert on all things rail.
- Assist with the vision and design of end-state solutions and collaborate with product teams to develop a roadmap for implementation.
- Identify the internal and external data sources needed for the solution and perform exploratory analyses to uncover trends and insights.
- Work with the data science team to prepare the data for analysis and model development.
- Manage project implementation and communicate progress to internal and external stakeholders.
- Undergraduate degree with a major in a quantitative, technical, or scientific field preferred.
- Passion for data – exploring, combining, visualizing, and modeling a new dataset should excite you!
- Superior written and verbal communication skills – Solutions Engineers know how to find the story in the data and can communicate it clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
- Comfort with MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Working knowledge of popular data science tools (e.g. SQL, R, Python…), or willingness to learn.
- Domain expertise in rail, transportation, or similar industries is a plus.
