The Opportunity

This role will build our already dominant newspaper share even further and grow the revenue impact of the obituary category for our partners and Legacy. As part of a successful, established web company this role has the stability and rigor of a traditional business model interacting with the top newspaper accounts in the world while bringing the energy and growth of a start-up to consistently deliver excellent financial results. We want leaders who can motivate and coach the team, who share our belief that life is too short not to enjoy the people you work with and the work you do. We are looking for a former publisher or regional sales executive who is intimate with how to grow and support our newspaper channel and the millions of readers who come to our site every day. 


RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:


  • Responsible for total newspaper account volume growth.
  • Ability to build senior strategic relationships with client leaders to secure revenue growth, as well as be able to represent Legacy within the industry to demonstrate our value within the challenging and evolving newspaper market.
  • Leads the team in proactively prospecting, qualifying, and growing size and quality of new and existing clients to achieve 5-10% revenue growth year over year and deliver aggressive 100% satisfaction goals.
  • Ability to influence Editorial, Marketing, and Product groups to effect growing revenues and operational efficiency. Responsible for growing the business by generating revenue through innovative ideas. 
  • Responsible for leading the weekly, monthly, annual sales delivery against budget goals for the newspaper segment.
  • QUALITIES FOR SUCCESS INCLUDE:


  • Must possess strong leadership, communication, time management and organizational skills.
  • Must be an excellent sales contributor as well as sales leader.
  • Must understand full portfolio from base hosting capabilities and guest book services to traffic building SEO and ecommerce capabilities and be able to leverage those services to drive the most comprehensive solution to growing the obituary category.
  • Must have a solid analytic toolset and be able to translate data into benefits for our customers.
  • Must be great listener to client needs and be able to develop programs that exceed their expectations. This role needs to think creatively, sell strategically, and communicate efficiently both internally and externally. 
  • Must be comfortable living the mission, core values and culture of Legacy.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:


  • A minimum of five years high level management and/or regional or national sales experience in the newspaper industry. 
  • BS/BA degree required, MBA or financial certification or experience ideal.
  • Former P&L responsibility, able to create shareholder value.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the newspaper publishing and online space.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
