Job Title
Commerce Writer, Partnerships
Job Description
Dotdash Meredith is looking for a writer to join the News & Deals team and cover Branded Performance Content and organic home, beauty, fashion, and lifestyle-related shopping content on celebrities, timely trends, and reviews towards various Partnerships team goals. We're looking for someone who can cover everything from single-product features to sale roundups and spot customer-loved pieces, seasonal and trending items, and more for brands like People, InStyle, Real Simple, Travel + Leisure, and Food & Wine. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is passionate about and has experience with commerce-focused stories, can create quality content, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

This position is hybrid and based in New York City near our Dotdash Meredith office. The salary range for this position is $55,125 - $70,000, commensurate with experience and proper qualifications.
Your day-to-day:

  • Read through client briefs, organize assets, and write Branded Performance Content (sponsored) articles across our brands
  • Inclusive of BPC, pitch and write a total of 6 to 8 timely shopping articles per week for major retailers like Target, Walmart, Nordstrom, and more
  • Identify and carry out commerce content opportunities within various lifestyle categories including fashion, beauty, home, travel, and kitchen
  • Work across various edit programs with different KPIs and content strategies, pivoting when needed to focus on several different goals at a time
  • Use data and analytics to brainstorm and guide content decisions
  • Collaborate closely with numerous writers and editors both on and outside of the Partnerships Vertical
  • Collaborate closely with the Business Development Team and Campaign Managers, ensuring that all BPC timelines and deliverables are met
  • Monitor social media (TikTok, Instagram, etc.) for Commerce opportunities, including viral products and celebrity mentions
  • Pitch in during off hours on key tentpole weekends, like Black Friday/Cyber Monday, to update stories, write new content, and spot check live articles for accuracy
  • Reach out to high-quality experts to provide background information and quotes as needed

You are:

  • Passionate about and/or knowledgeable of the lifestyle commerce space and enthusiastic about finding the best products out there
  • Detail-oriented, deadline-focused, and have the ability to meet daily deadlines with quick turnarounds
  • Highly organizational and cool under the pressure of juggling multiple projects at once
  • Experienced in executing SEO best practices
  • A strong writer capable of creating engaging, lively headlines and working across several brands at a time, all the while keeping each brand's voice, values, and style in mind
  • A self-starter who can pivot seamlessly as new initiatives and priorities are identified
  • Ideally, you have 2+ years of relevant commerce experience

Part of the Commerce team spirit means embodying these core competencies:

  • Manage Ambiguity: You can comfortably deal with change and can decide/act without the total picture. You remain calm and productive while dealing constructively with problems that do not have clear solutions or outcomes.
  • Nimble Learning: You're eager to actively learn through experimentation when tackling new problems, using both successes and failures as learning fodder.
  • Self-Development: You want to seek new ways to grow and be challenged using both formal and informal development channels. You show a personal commitment to continuously improving, accepting stretch opportunities, and making the most of available development resources.

An Insider's view of Dotdash Meredith

What’s the vibe like in the office?

Everyone that we work with is incredibly smart, so I love being able to learn from my coworkers, but not just about what they do, about how they think. I feel like I'm always getting better when I get to spend time with people in the office.

Lauren

General Manager & VP, The Balance

What projects are you most excited about?

Atomic design is in our DNA at Dotdash. We're striving to have the dev and design teams work closer together and use a single source of truth for how components are pieced together using predefined molecules and atoms. This is exciting and innovative work that is helping us scale at an incredible rate and deliver on our promise of fastest sites!

Brian

Manager, Front-End Development

How has your career grown since starting at the company?

Since being at Dotdash, my career has grown exponentially in a very critical area: leadership. I went from a team of 1 to over 10 people and that has taken a serious adjustment. I’ve had to sharpen my soft skills by listening to my team and campaigning for them when obstacles prevent them from doing their best work.

Patrice

SVP, Brand Marketing

How do you empower your team to be more creative?

We do quite a few things to encourage creativity like hackathons, design sprints, and "Unconferences". That said, I think the most meaningful thing we do is to encourage teams to be autonomous. Having control and ownership over their respective applications gives our team members the freedom to explore ideas to solve their own problems.

Nabil

CTO

What’s the vibe like in the office?

The vibe in our new office is friendly, fun and welcoming. Our employees are starting to trickle back in and it's been so nice seeing everyone in-person! Our upcoming hybrid schedule will give me flexibility to work from home a couple days a week but then I'll also get the in-person time with my colleagues that I miss so much!

Colleen

SVP, People
