Job Summary
The Aggregation and Catastrophe Management team is seeking an individual that is interested in pushing the boundaries on exposure management. The team is responsible for understanding the company’s exposure to natural catastrophes, terrorism, cyber events, and casualty catastrophes. For this particular role we are searching for a person that will be focused on driving our cyber modeling capabilities forward. CNA’s Cyber Insurance business is growing rapidly, but like all insurance carriers, it is critical that we understand our potential for catastrophic loss.
We are looking for a person that has a solid understanding of the internet, cyber security, and networking technology. If you have these qualifications, understand insurance, and have some familiarity with probabilities and statistics, you will find this to be an influential and rewarding position. You could be a major contributor to the Cyber Insurance team and will help senior management guide business strategy.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform in-depth analyses of our cyber aggregation model and determine how it can be used to make effective risk management decisions and improve underwriting results
- Understand our cyber insurance product and its potential for aggregation
- Respond to cyber events to assess the potential impact to CNA
- Develop methodologies and computer programs or tools to capture data for complex analyses
- Design and write programs using a variety of programming languages and software tools
- Produce meaningful reports and spreadsheets, communicate with other analytical staff and management, and deliver presentations to senior management
- Facilitate communication and provide technical guidance to the Cyber Insurance team and senior management regarding findings and recommendations
- Provide guidance to less experienced team members and may lead and/or participate in special projects

Skills Knowledge and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of internet functionality, networking, and cyber security technology
- Desire to become an expert in catastrophe modeling and learn how it can be used to make portfolio management decisions
- Expertise in SQL coding and data management skills
- Knowledge of insurance, including: coverages, policy terms and conditions
- Ability to code in Python, C++, VBA, R, or similar language
- Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA’s internal and external business partners
- Knowledge of catastrophe modeling, statistics, and probability theory is desired
- Strong analytical critical thinking and problem solving skills with the ability to effectively resolve complex situations
- Ability to exercise professional judgment and make critical business decisions effectively within scope of authority based on data analyses and reviews
- Ability to creatively and effectively manage through ambiguous and challenging problems leads through change and takes appropriate level of risk

Education and Experience
1. Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent
2. Typically a minimum of five years of related work experience in CAT Modeling, Cyber, Catastrophe Risk, or other related experience.
