West Monroe Partners is currently seeking a Senior Storage & Backup Engineer in our Chicago office to provide operational support for West Monroe Partners Performance Services clients. The Senior Storage & Backup Engineer will help with managing storage and backup environments in relations to day to day operations as well as on-call support outside of business hours on a rotational basis. Also, the Senior Storage & Backup Engineer will work on project-based initiatives for clients, including upgrades to existing infrastructure and deployment of new technology. The position will be the escalation point for each of West Monroe Partners Network Operations Center (NOC) and Tier 2/3 support for questions and complex issue resolution.
Qualifications:
Demonstrate an understanding of technology as it pertains to Enterprise Storage & Backup infrastructure and related components. Be able to provide design recommendations, perform infrastructure upgrades, deploy new infrastructure solutions, and troubleshoot issues. Individuals must be able to discuss issues with the managed services clients and be able to effectively apply technical knowledge to a client situation. Individuals will be contributing to client satisfaction by providing clients with timely and responsive services and work products. You will also be the mentor to the other engineers on the team and provide opportunities to grow their skillset with industry experience.
Specific skills include, but are not limited to, the ability to:
- Thoroughly and accurately understand issues and analyze the problem in a systematic fashion.
- Analyze each client's specific request, determine the underlying problem, and recommend proper solution.
- Serve as an escalation point for the NOC and tier 2/3 support and provide advance troubleshooting
- Understand and execute standard escalation procedures with support.
- Strong communication skills to be able to work with client management and provide written and verbal status updates
- Engineer enterprise class storage & backup solutions based upon West Monroe Partners clients’ business requirements
- Provide technical project management for storage & backup projects
- The position requires exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, and the individual must possess a structured, methodical approach to resolving issues and administering the client environment.
- Evaluates products and upgrades for appropriateness of cost and compatibility. Oversees and implements upgrade strategies.
- Background in implementing and managing storage infrastructure including major platforms (such as: EMC, NetApp, Hitachi, IBM), platform management products, and other storage-related technologies (such as: FC Switches, RPAs, Data Movers, Cloud/Hybrid-Cloud Storage)
- Background in implementing and managing backup infrastructure including major platforms (such as: Commvault, Avamar, Veeam), platform management products, and other backup related technologies (such as: Data Domain, SimpleStor, Cloud Archive Stores)
- Assist in the design of resilient, redundant, fault tolerant, and scalable infrastructure solutions
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent required
- 5 years’ minimum of similar work experience in a client facing role
- 5 years demonstrated experience in managing Enterprise storage arrays with a solid technical foundation in all related protocols and technical functions
- 5 years demonstrated experience in managing Enterprise backup systems with a solid technical foundation in host operating systems as well as physical versus virtual servers
- Experience with NetApp (Both 7-mode and CDOT) and/or EMC platform preferred
- Experience with Commvault and/or Avamar Backup platform preferred
- Experience creating procedures and documentation
- Experience managing or be a major part of large Enterprise Infrastructure projects
- Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
- Storage and/or Backup certifications preferred
- Ability and willingness to travel to Chicagoland area clients (less than 10% of the time)
