Job Description:
As an enterprise Data Center Network Implementer, you will contribute to the development and deployment of Caterpillar's state-of-the-art data center network architecture and network solutions.
JOB PURPOSE: To provide enterprise Data Center Network (DCN) technical advice and counsel to IT and customer management and IT project teams; expertise is normally required as it relates to the most complex problems as well as for new and existing systems development and support efforts.
JOB DUTIES: Responsibilities vary, but may include one or more of the following duties:
1. Develop concepts and architecture for DCN upgrades or additions based on operational issues, customer needs, customer impacts, and/or industry trends; and supports the introduction of new technology.
2. Provide guidance for DCN system management product(s).
3. Work with customer/operations management to develop plans to minimize the technical and/or business impact of network environment changes.
4. Resolve complex problems within the enterprise Data Center networks requiring in depth knowledge of all infrastructure components (e.g., Compute, Storage, Mission Critical (MC), High Availability (HA), Mach 1, etc.), problem isolation techniques and resolutions.
5. Provide general counsel on technical specialties to other sections and divisions.
6. Provide project participation, advice, and counsel to IT personnel, management, and project teams on various aspects of enterprise DCN hardware and software.
7. Develop processes, or process improvements, to provide reliable services across functional lines.
8. Typically serves as a team member on one or more projects.
The position manages the completion of its own work assignments and coordinates work with others.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE: The position requires knowledge and hands-on experience with the following: • Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) • Cisco Nexus Network Switches and NX-OS • Application Delivery Controller (Network Load Balancer) • Layers 2 (Data Link) and 3 (Network) of the Open Systems Interconnection model (OSI model).
TOP CANDIDATES WILL ALSO HAVE:
Proficient analytical skills, critical & forward thinking. Understanding of the global Caterpillar organization is required for CAT employees. The position typically requires a bachelor's degree and three to six years of progressively responsible job-related experience.
This position initiates communication with others outside immediate work group to work on new ideas or to counsel others, etc., thus the ability to listen to others is important to the job.
The position is challenged to identify problems quickly and correctly, some which may not be obvious. Communications regarding service interruptions is critical; I/S management and the impacted customer base must be aware of the situation and anticipated recovery time.
