Job Description

Our NielsenIQ Technology teams are working on our new “Connect” platform, a unified, global, open data ecosystem powered by Microsoft Azure. Our clients around the world rely on NielsenIQ’s data and insights to innovate and grow.

As a Junior Data Application Engineer, you will develop ETL solutions, design databases, and productize data flows via automation/scheduling software. This is your opportunity to work with world-class data assets and deliver value at a massive scale. 

Working under the guidance of the Data Applications Team Lead, the Engineer will contribute to the overall client satisfaction, team success, and technical platform capabilities. A strong candidate will lead the development of best-in-class analytics and reporting solutions for our clients while leveraging NielsenIQ world-class data assets

What you’ll do

  • Applies analytic curiosity and creativity to build and deliver custom reporting and business intelligence solutions to deliver valuable insights to our clients

  • Write SQL scripts of varying complexity to build robust ETL processes managing the transformation, manipulation, and staging needed for solutions development

  • Collaborates with client-facing teams, internal and external stakeholders, and SME’s to translate their needs, challenges, and opportunities into tactical milestones that you will execute to improve our solutions portfolio

  • Designs and develops engaging solutions by working with MicroStrategy, SQL, Python, HTML/CSS, and MS Office to develop reports, dashboards, and applications that meet every need

  • Partners with the Data Engineering team to understand and leverage new data and systems capabilities

  • Partners with Client Service teams to outline, document, and execute product design and development

  • Keeps efficiency in mind, proactively looking for opportunities to automate solutions and manual business processes

  • Work cross-functionally with external Clients and teams responsible for databases

  • Demonstrate proficiency in technology platforms to develop the knowledge necessary to support Client delivery

  • Be a positive influence for change management; lead by example

  • Build knowledge across all categories to become the key information resource for internal and external clients 

We’re looking for people who have

  • Undergraduate Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Business, Information Systems or other technical field required

  • Masters Degree or advanced technical certifications a plus

  • 2+ years of experience with SQL required

  • 2+ years of experience with RDBMS (e.g. Microsoft SQL Server, Azure, Snowflake) required

  • 2+ years of experience in at least one scripting or OOP language (e.g. Python, R, Perl, C#), Python preferred

  • Familiarity with basic web development preferred (e.g. HTML/CSS/JS)

  • Proficiency in design and user experience (UX)

  • Proficiency in understanding and communicating the complexities of data

  • Experience with cron scheduling (eg. VisualCron) a plus 

  • Prior experience with business intelligence software (e.g. MicroStrategy, Tableau) a plus

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word), VBA a plus

  • Ability to function in a team environment

  • Self-starter with the ability to manage priorities and deliver against established timelines

  • Logical thinking and problem solving focusing on a high level of detail

  • Demonstrated strength in analytics and creative problem solving through project or work experience

  • Familiarity with Scrum or Agile development philosophies is a plus
