Upwork is seeking a Senior Business Analyst to join the Corporate & Strategic Analytics team. In this role, you will partner with multiple partners including members of Business Operations, Strategy, Finance, Investor Relations, and Communications to deliver value to freelancers, their clients, and our shareholders. This is a high-visibility / high-impact role growing our understanding of the work marketplace, influencing strategy, and driving growth.
The Upwork Analytics team harnesses an extensive trove of data from our platform to inform and empower the company with insights about the business. We are looking for an independent, self-motivated Senior Business Analyst who will drive deep investigations into our behavioral and transactional data and unlock unique and valuable insights that lead to immediate change within the organization! The output of your work will be instrumental in redefining how millions of people around the world work. The ideal candidate will have the managerial courage to defend their conclusions and objectively admit their mistakes.
Your Responsibilities:
Contribute to solving the complex problems inherent to a double-sided marketplace. Deliver undiscovered insights to key partners that compel changes in corporate strategy and business decisions.
Partner with Business Operations, Finance, Investor Relations, PR & Communication, FP&A, Business Development, and the larger Analytics community in asking difficult questions about the inner workings of our marketplace, specifically as they relate to corporate strategy, then leading the effort to answer those questions.
Display curiosity, proactivity, determination, follow through, and accountability. Develop new metrics and analytical concepts that define and communicate the subtle, nuanced, yet impactful drivers of Upwork’s success.
Build executive-facing dashboards that provide partners with self-serve access to key performance indicators.
Drive analytics projects from idea to execution: translate a business question into an analytical framework, generate insights through analysis, and champion your recommendations to key decision makers.
What it takes to catch our eye:
Showcase extensive experience leading analytics projects end-to-end and thriving in a multifaceted, fast-paced environment. Show us that you’ve made a difference with tangible outcomes in previous roles.
Combine strong SQL skills, BI proficiency (Looker experience preferred, but not required), working knowledge of A/B experiments, and a demonstrable understanding of statistics.
Show passion for getting into the details - writing code, digging into data, iterating quickly, and taking action.
Experience with a scripting language or other automation tools and techniques.
Previous experience in a marketplace or eCommerce business.
