Specialty UW&PM Analyst
Capital One’s Financial Institutions Group (FIG) has a need for an Underwriting Associate to join our growing structured lending team primarily focused on financing assets related to the residential mortgage market. The incumbent will assist in the structuring, underwriting and closing of recourse and non-recourse loan opportunities with non-bank financial institutions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, transaction due diligence, collateral analysis, cash flow modeling, credit approval, legal documentation review, and closing. The individual will primarily underwrite new transactions, as well as assist in the restructuring of existing transactions, and consult with team members to manage and monitor portfolio accounts. The underwriter will also conduct company, industry, and product research.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Draft pre-screen memos, credit approval memos, collateral analysis, cash flow modeling, and risk rating assessment for recourse and non-recourse loans to non-bank financial institutions to assist with the internal credit approval process.
- Evaluate potential transactions to determine the quality of lending opportunities and appropriate transaction structure to maximize return on investment.
- Analyze financial statements and spreads for credit strengths and risks, provide recommendations to mitigate risk
- Perform due diligence including industry, company and financial analysis.
- Maintain detailed financial models; develop sensitivity analysis around key economic drivers.
- Work with internal partners to assist with closing process requirements
Additional Responsibilities may include:
- Mentor and train rotational analysts and new hires
- Participate in internal initiatives to ensure the business is well-managed and operates efficiently
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Military Experience
- At least 1 year of experience in financial statement analysis
- At least 1 year of experience in financial modeling
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other relevant fields
- Previous experience in underwriting or portfolio or asset management
- Completed coursework or training in credit risk management
