Arity-Design Researcher (Remote-Home Based Worker)

The Team
Made up of design leads, experience designers, content designers, design researchers, UI engineers, and visual designers, our Experience Designer Team works collaboratively across departments to capture the emotions and needs of our end users – which are reflected in all the ways they experience Arity and our products. Using a lean and agile approach, our XD team works across areas focused on driving data visualization, driving behavior analysis, urban planning, and shared mobility. They meet each project with deep empathy in order to craft useful and usable interface design solutions. The Role
The Design Researcher will execute a variety of research programs to support all phases of the product development process, from assessing consumer interest in potential products and features to exploring design solutions to evaluating the usability and effectiveness of existing products.
The researcher will apply quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods strategies, with an emphasis on largescale surveys and in-depth interviews. The researcher will be responsible for executing research projects from planning through analysis and reporting, working independently on projects of low-to-medium complexity and within teams for higher-complexity projects.
Responsibilities
- Work with internal stakeholders to define research objectives that are aligned with project and business goals
- Develop appropriate quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods research strategies to address objectives
- Create project plans that describe design research efforts, timelines, and outcomes
- Develop data collection instruments such as questionnaires, interview guides, and user tasks
- Identify and recruit appropriate participants for research studies, in partnership with vendors
- Use platforms such as Qualtrics and UserZoom to program, launch, and monitor studies in the field, supervising and coordinating with vendor partners as needed
- Lead interviews or other sessions to obtain user or expert feedback on product concepts and designs
- Analyze and synthesize quantitative and qualitative data to uncover insights and develop clear, actionable recommendations to inform product strategies and design decisions
- Create research reports and other artifacts such as journey maps, user profiles, and user scenarios to communicate research insights
- Share research insights with key stakeholders through engaging and concise presentations
- Develop or coach other team members in proper research and testing techniques
- Partner with Design, Product, Engineering, Data Science and Marketing on product goals to ensure alignment and direction based on research
- Inspire others with your enthusiasm and work ethic
- Keep up-to-date in the field by monitoring digital trends, attending workshops and joining professional groups
- Be an engaging and effective communicator of ideas
- Understand and interpret brand, user, and business needs and to develop innovative, creative, and results-oriented digital solutions that address these needs
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during the product development process. Demonstrated competence with survey design, A/B testing and survey experiments, in-depth interviews, usability testing, and related methods
- Experience analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data, including the application of basic to moderate statistical analysis
- Facility with generating and applying frameworks to organize research findings and provide decision framing for different stakeholder audiences
- Reliable test-plan management, skillful session facilitation, and clarity in communicating research methods and outcomes
- Proclivity for balancing “lean” philosophy with the need for concise documentation of user insights and design recommendations for design backlog and team reference
- Excellent communication skills, including storytelling, writing, and presenting
- 4-year degree–or equivalent years of work experience–in Human Factors/Human Computer Interaction, Cognitive or Experimental/Social Psychology, Cognitive Science, Sociology, or related field
- Ability to meet and serve design teams where they are, and set them up for success
- Experience/familiarity with research and analysis platforms such as Qualtrics, UserZoom, and Tableau. Experience/familiarity with collaboration software such as Confluence and Mural
- Comfortable acting and moving activities forward despite uncertainty

The salary for this level position is $70,000 - $103,300. The salary offered is commensurate with experience.
