We are looking for a Director of Design to join our growing team in our Chicago office. This role will report to the Chief Product Officer and work alongside product managers, designers, and software engineers.  

The Director of Design is responsible for translating Cohesion’s product vision and strategy into an accessible user experience that delights customers. The right candidate will enjoy applying the full lifecycle of design-thinking to novel problems in the commercial real estate space, as well as collaborating closely with key stakeholders, product management, marketing and engineering teams to bring designs to life.  

What you’ll do  

• Own the end-to-end visual expression of the Cohesion brand and product design lifecycle for several areas of our software and IoT platform  

• Collaborate with fellow designers, product managers, and engineering leads to define valuable problems and solve them with intuitive, engaging, and modern design  

• Talk with customers regularly to understand their journey and motivations  

• Lead internal discussions to share learnings and hone solution spaces to align with business goals  

• Create wireframes and simple prototypes to verify usability and delivered value  

• Advocate for intuitive, accessible UI and be a champion for design best practices  

• Create high-fidelity interface designs for iOS, Android, and responsive web platforms  

• Mentor other product designers on the team  

• Work alongside the Marketing team to elevate the public presentation of Cohesion, evaluate, enhance and maintain brand guidelines, and update existing website designs 

Required Qualifications  

• 7+ years of experience designing web and mobile experiences  

• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), Adobe XD, Sketch, Figma, or similar design tool  

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365  

• Previous senior-level and/or leadership experience on a design team  

• Experience influencing brand and design standards for a SaaS company or client  

• Creative problem-solving skills and comfort with breaking down complex problems  

• Desire to create designs in an iterative fashion that maximizes user feedback and speed to market  

• Desire to learn, grow, and improve skills through doing and knowledge-seeking  

• Conducts business and relationships in an open, honest fashion and with the highest personal integrity, treating all coworkers, clients, partners, and stakeholders respectfully  

Desired Qualifications  

• Early-stage startup experience  

• Proficiency and comfort with running user research without assistance  

• Experience with HTML5 and CSS3  

• Relevant degree/certifications in design, art, or user experience
