About this role:

We are seeking a Design Manager to join our Brand Team at Tempus. This person will play an essential role in the development of marketing collateral spanning various mediums including web, print, video, social media, packaging, and experiential design directed at physicians, researchers, life sciences companies, and patients.

This position incorporates cross-functional collaboration, communication, and problem solving:  focusing on the how so that designers can focus on the what.  This role will own the intentional operationalizing, optimizing, and scaling of marketing and brand design.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with various teams: including marketing, events, communications, medical, sales, product design, and software engineering to create collateral across multiple business units
  • Maintain and enhance our high-quality design standards and create visual continuity across all marketing platforms
  • Understand the end-to-end design process and Identify the critical gaps and weaknesses of an existing process
  • Project management: design workflows, assign projects, set timelines, and remove any bottlenecks
  • Help designers by working to improve design systems and template files, reveal their strengths in their work product, and provide a productive critique to the team
  • Define clear metrics of success and ensure designers align with them
  • Responsible for project resourcing:  knowing how many people are needed for a particular design process and with what skills
  • Focus on cross-functional team collaboration by managing communications and coordination across all teams involved in the design process
  • Responsible for budget allocation and control of external vendors
  • Responsible for relationship with print vendor and maintenance of print portal

Requirements:

  • 3+ years experience in design environment
  • A background based in project management, knowledge of Coda is a plus
  • Strong business acumen to manage budgets and strategize to meet long-term goals
  • Knowledge of visual design principles, especially around typography, iconography, grid structure, and information hierarchy
  • Knowledge of web design software, Figma in particular is a plus
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite—InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop
  • Familiarity with Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects
  • Knowledge of optimizing and preparing files for print
  • Solid presentation and communication skills 
  • Healthcare and/or tech experience is a plus

Our Chicago office is located in downtown River North. Right on the river and close to neighborhoods like Fulton Market, Central Business District, Lincoln Park, and Streeterville, it's a lively area with convenient transportation access and is home to many bars, restaurants, and coffee shops.
