Position
Morningstar is looking for a Designer for our Digital Brand Experience group, specifically focused on end-to-end experiences showcasing Morningstar's research. You’ll be helping us create awareness of our analysis and research, provide users with investment and research discovery opportunities, and build focused tools that showcase Morningstar insight. You’ll be collaborating with other designers, our editorial team, brand, and our technology partners to develop impactful programs and campaigns that support customer engagement and sales interactions.
You’ll be great at:
Owning all parts of the design process from discovery, definition, development, and delivery
Identifying connections between products, services, and touchpoints to account for a great user experience
Utilizing user-centered design methods in day-to-day work to inform design decisions (such as user research, prototyping, and other design thinking methods)
Creating high-fidelity prototypes and other artifacts that communicate design direction and execution considerations
Guiding teams to build coordinated solutions that will support the end-to-end vision of the product experience
Solving navigation and information organization challenges
Making and articulating decisions around information structure, relationships, and content strategy
Visualizing and communicating a user’s task flow through various parts of a product and system
Applying creativity, logic, and critical thinking in new situations to find the best solution, while continuously striving to find better ways of doing things
Actively seeking out new challenges and be tenacious in overcoming obstacles to achieve results
Demonstrating core design skills—especially concerning typography, composition, information hierarchy, and data visualization—to create delightful, engaging experiences that reinforce the Morningstar brand
Solving challenging information and communication design problems and being able to present multiple concepts for consideration, with sound rationale
Responsibility:
Able to execute design solutions through all mediums with an emphasis on digital experiences, user interface design, and multimedia
Able to master complex information, and can translate that information in a way that resonates with users and encourages engagement
Can take projects from start to finish, owning the creative concepting and production execution
Deeply collaborative and can bring the right players together to solve creative problems
A curious self-starter who isn't afraid of ambiguity, or constraints
Open to feedback and knows how to defend design decisions
Continuously striving for better ways of communicating, coaching, and learning
Curious, resourceful, flexible, and adaptive
Comfortable with a fast-paced work environment
Able to bring energy to a team and keep things positive
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in graphic design or equivalent experience/training in the graphic arts
3–5 years of experience designing for software, web, and/or digital products
Confident self-starter with analytical and strategic capabilities, plus a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and creatively
Experience working with design systems
Strong knowledge of Sketch/InVision/Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and macOS
Recommended Action:
Experience working in a deadline-driven atmosphere with a mix of extended and quick-turnaround projects
Understanding of web analytics, SEO, and content management
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
Knowledge of HTML and CSS
