The Opportunity:

• Litera is looking for an experienced design leader to lead our User Experience Design and Technical Communications team.
• Our team of UX Designers, Technical Writers, and Managers design, develop, and write content for our Litera family of software products that are used by hundreds of thousands of lawyers every day to work more efficiently and effectively.
• You will lead and continue to evolve this critical team by recruiting, managing and coaching a talented team of thoughtful designers, while working to continue to define and nurture our ever-evolving UX Design and Technical Communications practices.
• As a passionate design leader, you will be hands-on with our UX Designers to provide feedback in design critiques, coach the team through challenges and support the professional development of each team member. In the process, you will continue to shape a team culture that values trust, open communication, and collaboration.
• You will also partner with your fellow leaders in our Product Management, Technology and customer-facing teams to explore future product opportunities, make strategic decisions, prioritize product work, and support the ongoing improvement of our product development process. You focus will be ensuring we design solutions to solve customers’ pervasive problems, creating products customers love and value!
• You will join a diverse, growing team of UX Designers and Technical Writers from diverse professional backgrounds located in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and India. Our team members are collaborative, incredibly curious and driven by understanding our users and customers; asking thoughtful questions of our users and of each other; and always finding better ways of working.

What you’ll be doing:

• Define and nurture our ever-evolving UX Design and Technical Communications practices
• Manage and coach our team of UX Designers and Managers
• Grow the UX Design team by attracting and retaining new talent
• Provide feedback in design critiques and support team to work through challenges
• Coach the design team members to help them perform at their best and support their ongoing professional development
• Shape a team environment where team members feel safe to openly communicate and take risks
• Partner with leads in Product Management, Technology and customer-facing teams to set direction and priorities for the R&D organization
• Shape a design-driven culture across Litera by engaging other teams in the research and design process
• Collaborate and experiment with our machine learning team to explore how machine learning capabilities can be translated into meaningful solutions that address user needs

 Experience we’re looking for:

• At least 7 years of experience leading or managing a design team and 10 years in UX/ UX Design
• Experience in attracting, hiring and retaining design talent
• Managing multi-disciplinary design teams of UX researchers, UX Designers and UX writers
• Building out a UX Design practice (inc. UX Research) in a fast-growing company
• Portfolio of relevant design work that includes software products (B2B / enterprise highly desirable), either executed by yourself or a team
• Keen attention to detail to provide designers timely feedback to enable them to consistently deliver quality designs and grow their design skills
• Ability to grow your team’s technical capabilities/skills
• Experience working with leaders in the Product Management and Technology teams to drive strategy, vision, and execution
• Comfortable juggling a wide range of responsibilities at the same time
