Motorola Solutions worldwide education, enablement and operations Learning Organization consists of a group of professionals responsible for design, development and maintenance of documentation and training materials for Motorola Solutions employees, partners and customers. As a Designer you will have an opportunity to expand your IT knowledge, and with the use of modern tools, design content allowing our customers a better understanding of the state-of-the-art products developed by Motorola Solutions.
Job Description
The Instructional Designer owns the Portfolio management of the training portfolio within their technology track. They understand the businesses and technologies they support and are considered the learning content experts for their businesses. They interact and work closely with the product leadership teams (PLTs), regions, product managers and engineering teams, and all audience-based learning leads to ensure their learning needs are reflected in the product program releases and business goals are met.
The Instructional Designer analyzes, validates all requirements submitted for creation or update for their portfolio. They drive, in partnership with program managers and content development resources to ensure that learning assets meet both global and regional requirements.
The Instructional Designer performs the design role in all projects in their track working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and engineering to create a Detailed Design Document (DDD) to final approval stage before passing this on to the development team, and is also responsible for providing metrics, technology roadmaps, skills matrices and proactively supports all learning initiatives.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Engage with Product groups, business leaders, regions and pre/post sales and partner representatives to analyze learning needs of product release, incorporating specific requirements. Prioritize all learning requirements and create\update those assets as efficiently as possible.
Portfolio Management:
Validate & prioritize learning requirements with Product, pre/post sales, partners and regional delivery teams.
Cost learning requirements for resource project management team.
Conduct needs analyses to determine gaps in the learning portfolio.
Identify new projects necessary to maintain and grow the curriculum based on customer feedback and product portfolio evolution.
Manage lifecycle of each learning asset within the portfolio; regularly evaluates relevance and success, maintains current content during its useful life and cancels from the offering when appropriate.
Drives portfolio rationalization efforts by Identifying existing projects that need to be updated, redesigned or cancelled to maintain the curriculum based on customer feedback and product portfolio evolution.
Uses instructional design methodologies to define high level modality, duration, and key requirements for learning assets based on audience-specific feedback and nature of content for the portfolio; to be further defined and validated by individual project-focused instructional designer.
Creates and maintains roadmaps showing ongoing plans for technical content, approach and methods. Ensures that all project designs mesh with the roadmaps.
Promotes adherence to processes
Ensures that the portfolio is aligned and rationalized to audience and business needs.
Prioritizes content development against all external requirements.
Utilises the concept of document based training where appropriate.
Identifies and engages Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for use in developing learning assets.
Communicates current portfolio status with cross-functional teams.
Competency Mapping:
Creates and maintain the skills matrices for the portfolio including learning assets knowledge and skills mapping for all job roles.
Analyzes the success of the curriculum to maximize knowledge transfer for each technology and modifies the portfolio as warranted.
Metrics & Reporting:
Analyzes the curriculum and utilisation, ensuring that the learning assets created continue to support the audience and business needs. This is accomplished by running utilization reports, analyzing skills matrices and collaborating with the product groups and Audience leads.
Communicates portfolio updates in the organization’s weekly reports. Depending on urgency and visibility may escalate critical issues to the Design team Lead.
Instructional Design:
Creates and maintains detailed design documents for all learning assets within the technology track in partnership with SMEs and engineering to final approval phase.
Instructional Design education or related experience
Working with culturally diverse global teams
Strong interpersonal, leadership, written, and verbal communication skills
Self-motivated to accomplish goals
Flexible work hours. Must be able to work outside of traditional working hours to enable collaboration with the global team
Nice to have:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Knowledge of Motorola Solutions product and service portfolios/businesses
Knowledge of project management principles
Works closely with the media team and development team to ensure swift execution of the DDD (Detailed Design Document) to development phase.
