Job Summary - User Interface Designer
The User Interface Designer supports their Product teams in delivering high-quality visual designs of user experiences that adhere to brand guidelines, follow our design system, and meet both accessibility requirements user needs. As a core member of our user experience team, a UI Designer is expected to collaborate with UX architects, product managers, developers and stakeholders to contribute to the definition and creation of human-centered design solutions that address customer needs and meet SMS Assist's business goals. This role will draw on knowledge of the UX lifecycle (research, concepting, iterative design, usability testing) to deliver value. UI Designers are responsible for communicating design intent for development and supporting engineering through delivery.
The User Interface Designer I participates in these areas of UX discipline:

  • User Research
  • Usability Testing
  • Curating of design system
  • Documenting design for developers
  • Creation of prototypes
  • Participating in Ideation/Brainstorming


Responsibilities - User Interface Designer

  • Design elegant, smart, and usable designs for web and mobile applications
  • Take direction from product and design teams to ensure that we are leveraging our UX expertise properly to deliver easy-to-use experiences that empower our internal and external users and meet stakeholder expectations
  • Support human-centered design approach through rapid testing and iteration of concepts
  • Support consistency across application experiences through application of design system and UX patterns
  • Support development to ensure that design intent is communicated and understood and QA deliverables to identify and prioritize gaps
  • Collaborate across functional groups and across design teams early and often
  • Participate in design thinking methodologies to empathize, learn, ideate, challenge stakeholders and UX peers, and iterate
  • Be familiar with WCAG 2.1 accessibility guidelines and how they impact visual design
  • Participate in Agile process to deliver design artifacts in a timely and effective manner
  • Support development of presentations, storyboards, and client feedback mechanisms to communicate design process
  • Contribute to user research activities, gathering requirements, identifying opportunities, and helping prioritize product roadmaps
  • Research and share knowledge of the industry's latest UX & UI best practices and tools
  • Work with team members across time zones
  • Ensure confidentiality of internal and external data
  • Perform ad-hoc projects and other duties as assigned

Role Specific Skills - User Interface Designer

  • Working knowledge of usability principals + techniques
  • Intermediate proficiency using UX applications (e.g. Sketch, InVision) to produce user interfaces, prototypes, and storyboards (preferred)
  • Ability to story tell and frame problems for a diverse audience of stakeholders, helping them visualize design opportunities (preferred)
  • Ability to create lightweight prototypes to test ideas (preferred)
  • A love for design and understanding of its value (preferred)
  • Knowledge of typography and visual design guidelines for mobile and web applications
  • Ability to create intuitive designs for web and mobile applications (preferred)


Qualifications - User Interface Designer
Minimum Qualifications

  • Human-Centered Design training or equivalent work experience
  • Experience creating high-fidelity visual design and prototypes, working closely with team leads, peers, customers and developers from inception through implementation
  • Experience designing and shipping software
  • Experience working with product / engineering teams
