Description
Development of Electro Mechanical Control Systems using quantitative methods to solve problems for internal and external Caterpillar customers through integrating mechanical and electronic components and systems through control algorithm implementation and optimization using data from sensors, on-board models and product analytics. To direct and participate in the design and development of new Electro Mechanical Control Systems product concepts and complex engineering projects for release to production in a manner to ensure products provide superior performance, durability, quality, digital connectivity and serviceability.
Job Duties
For Caterpillar, digital means using technology to extract data from our machines and engines and transform it into valuable recommendations or "insights," to help customers make better, more informed decisions and help Caterpillar make robust products with the lowest total ownership cost. Our products generate and process large amounts of data from sensors, on-board models, and control algorithms in real-time creating real-world machine usage information. The integrated mechanical and electronic control systems and associated control algorithms and/or embedded controls or software that enable performance improvements for products and enable machine information that is highly useful for product development and product improvement once analyzed, modeled, aggregated, and mined for actionable insight using product analytics.
Conceives and provides practical control system product design applications using complex technical principles. Emphasis of this position is on creating concepts and directing the design and development of complex engineering projects that provide superior integrated control system designs.
Prepares concept, design, development, and feasibility studies of complex integrated control system engineering projects. Delegates portions of the project to other engineers and leads and coordinates the design, analysis, and computer simulation effort. Prepares development plans and is responsible for meeting scheduled dates
Coordinates product tests with prove design and prototype build up and test areas. Provides guidance to other engineers responsible for portions of the product project to ensure development schedules are met.
Keeps abreast of latest technological advancements in the control system area and prepares design concepts and develops unique product design features the Company often patents to gain competitive advantage. Also keeps abreast of emerging technologies such as Matlab/Simulink, co-simulation, neural networks, adaptive control, and self-learning machines.
Basic Qualifications
Requires a bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering or Computer Science curriculum plus 3 to 7 years of experience in control systems or internal combustion engine development. Or an advanced degree in Engineering or Computer Science plus 2 to 6 years of experience in control systems or internal combustion engine development. Incumbent must be able to demonstrate the ability to gain a mastery of complex engineering and software controls concepts. Must have a good mechanical aptitude with ability to develop product concepts. Requires strong leadership ability and good communications skills.
Top Candidates will also have
Experience in software controls development both documentation requirements and MATLAB Simulink software coding.

The location for this position is Mossville, IL.
Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.
This position will require less than 10% travel.
