Description
A Design Engineer on the Drivetrain System Analysis Team is responsible for conducting static analysis of rotating components, particularly focused on the core drivetrain components such as bearings, gears, shafts, splines. The System Analysis Team supports product teams across Caterpillar (Engines, Transmissions, Axles, Final Drives, and Wheel Bearings) on NPI, CPI, Cost Reduction and Maintenance projects. On the Drivetrain System Analysis Team, you will be supporting nearly every machine produced by Caterpillar and utilized by customers around the world. You will continually learn and stay abreast of innovative technology, collaborate, mentor and coach your team members, and deepen your professional network.
Job Duties

  • Perform Static and/or Dynamic Analysis on Caterpillar's new and existing drivetrain systems. Evaluate effectiveness of components within various systems. Communicate technical information, including conclusions and recommendations for improvement.
  • Perform component life rollups for Drivetrain systems.
  • Support the Drivetrain Platform and Component teams by performing analyses on New Product Introduction, Continuous Product Improvement, Cost Reduction, Aftermarket, Maintenance, and New Technology projects.
  • Keep up to date on new technologies or develop new technologies for analyzing systems.
  • Develop and maintain a keen understanding of internal and external customer needs
  • Coach, mentor and educate your fellow team members to improve their technical competence and support development of their subject matter expertise.


Basic Qualifications

  • Mechanical, Agricultural, Aerospace or Civil Engineering Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in an accredited Engineering curriculum
  • 2+ years of design, test, analysis, or simulation experience with Drivetrain or Machine components
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Ability to perform complex analysis assignments
  • Ability to research analysis techniques from world-wide sources
  • Demonstrated technical leadership skills with excellent communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills


Top Candidates will also have

  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in Engineering
  • Experience with various Caterpillar product lines
  • Experience working with multiple different engineering teams
  • Experience performing one or multiple of the following types of analysis: Finite Element Analysis, Static Analysis or Dynamic Analysis
  • Experience with one or multiple of the following analysis programs: ROMAX, MASTA, Transmission3D
  • Gear and/or bearing component experience
  • Experience with 3D modeling software
  • Experience performing or reviewing Drivetrain Performance
  • Experience with Caterpillar machine histogram data

  • The location for this position is either East Peoria, IL or Decatur, IL

  • This position may require less than 10% travel
