Reporting to our VP, Engineering, the Director, Engineering will create a positive and vibrant work environment where engineers feel challenged and engaged. They will ensure the engineers have a sense of purpose and belonging and know that we care about them individually. They will ensure the smooth execution of complex deliverables by helping teams remain focused on the 'most important thing' to bring value to our customers.
He/She should have a strong technical background; however, they will spend less time writing code, and more time identifying and clearing bottlenecks in the process and roadblocks to success for their teams.
Position Responsibilities:
- Direct people management responsibilities include hiring, termination, performance management and pay management.
- Provides formal and informal training and coaching to team in expected behaviors and activities.
- Collaborates with executives and/or senior leaders to define organizational goals and strategic plans
- Sets expectations and goals for the product development organization. Continuously measure progress and communicate why we’re doing things and why they're important
- Builds out a remote-first organization that scales and delivers on time; product engineering, infrastructure, data science, project management, quality assurance
- Builds Scrum and leadership teams that perform at a high level. Fosters inter-team collaboration and productivity
- Identifies, monitors, and evaluates key metrics to ensure health and progress of each engineering teams and enterprise domains
- Implements, measures and reports on the execution strategy defined for the team. Execution includes delivery of planned work, with deliverables that meet company standards with respect to quality, scalability, and reliability
- Oversees engineering processes and ability to generate new processes to meet needs. Works closely with senior leadership on continual process improvement and organizational change to support Agile values
- Partners with VP, Engineering on longer-term technology strategy and planning. Connect these longer-term plans to the day-to-day activities of your engineering teams within an Agile/Scrum environment
- Builds a world-class team. Raises the bar while you meet hiring objectives and own the growth and development of your teams
- Works with stakeholders across the company to help incorporate company goals and initiatives into the vision and plans for our core platforms
- Supports the development of Affinitiv’s product roadmaps, including, but not limited to technology investigation, prototyping, and estimation
- Leads methodology for the design, development, test and release of our products and features
- Evaluates new platforms, technologies and solutions in the market and keeping abreast of trends
- Identifies opportunities to leverage internal and external resources to meet project demands and judging when it’s appropriate to lead the team and when to jump into the work
- Ensures the knowledge sharing of software development best practices in design, code, quality and process across departments; and developing and monitoring technical standards to ensure adherence
- All other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
- An under-graduate degree in computer science/engineering is required; a master’s degree/MBA is preferred
- 10+ years in leadership overseeing engineering teams
- 10+ years as a software developer/engineer
- Experience within the automotive software industry/technology consulting is a plus
- Prior experience in hiring and building high performing software development teams using off-shore and near-shore development resources
- Prior experience driving large scale technology transformation and modernization
- Experience in developing world class SaaS applications using cloud native architectures in AWS and Azure
- Hands on development experience in Microsoft technologies including .Net and SQL Server.
- Prior experience in development of enterprise class B2B and B2C mobile applications using cross platform development platforms like React Native, Flutter, Ionic, Xamrin as a well as, native android and iOS development
- Mastery of modern agile software methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) and planning tools (e.g. JIRA)
- Skilled with modern IaaS and PaaS platforms, Microsoft SQL Server, relational and NoSQL database
- Solid understanding of modern API design patterns (REST, GraphQL, JSON, etc.)
- Strong working knowledge of Data Privacy practices, GDPR, CCPA, etc.
- Strong multi-tasking and prioritizing abilities while being nimble and adaptable
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
- Projects the highest levels of integrity while winning through a consultative and embracing personality
- Superior interpersonal communication and presentation skills as well as proven organizational skills
- Experience in managing and forecasting unit level expenses which may include department allocations, Product/Component, 3rd Party, project/program, software, and vendor expenses
