Job Summary - Director of Software Development
The Director of Software Development supports the Product and Technology Department by directing and overseeing operations within the organization's software development function.
Responsibilities - Director of Software Development

  • Lead a team of software engineers to deliver and maintain high quality solutions that adhere to technical standards, provide direction to the software development teams on various capabilities that supports SMS proprietary applications.
  • Directs the work of a team responsible for overall planning, execution, and success of technical projects, operating with scale, speed, and quality.
  • Work closely with product leaders on business strategic planning, aligning technology vision and strategy with product and business direction, and convert strategic plans into actionable programs and projects
  • Implements software development strategies and administers associated policies, procedures, and processes. Define and implement technical and application architecture standards.
  • Participate in requirement analysis and software design processes related to web-based software applications.
  • Detailed knowledge of business operations, strategy, and priorities to establish technical direction.
  • Ensures all activities associated with software development align with organizational goals and objectives. Ensure best practices and coding standards are adhered to.
  • Research, evaluate and select technologies that best fit business and technology needs. Drive architecture design for technologies that best fit business and IT needs. Architect current and future state of solutions across environments.
  • Address production support issues, diagnosing and resolving them in a timely manner.
  • Assess, develop, retain, and recruit software development talent that will support the ongoing needs of business
  • Other jobs as needed


Role Specific Skills - Director of Software Development

  • Exceptional leadership skills with 10+ years of experience in tech management
  • 10+ years of professional software design experience leading software engineers in a product software delivery approach
  • 10+ years' experience developing software on the Microsoft .NET platform with experience on .NET framework/.NET core
  • Deep experience with software technology, comprehensive understanding of object-oriented and service-oriented application development techniques and theories
  • Solid understanding of relational database design and querying concepts
  • Pragmatist who is bold, willing to think big, and encourage teams to act decisively
  • Strong background in agile software development, continuous delivery
  • Comfortable working with a disparate and diverse technology team across multiple locations
  • Excellent project management, organizational and time management skills


People Management Skills - Director of Software Development

  • Advanced proficiency in all people management processes, including recruitment, performance management and reward
  • Advanced proficiency in building, growing and developing a team; including department structure design and resourcing
  • Advanced proficiency in coaching and developing individual team members to reach their potential
  • Proficient in engaging multiple teams through communication, processes, personal impact and influence


Qualifications - Director of Software Development
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or with equivalent professional experience
  • Ten or more years of progressive IT experience, including experience in a multi-office environment


Other Relevant Qualifications

  • Working experience with offshore technical teams
  • Bilingual Mandarin Preferred
