Director, Systems Engineering and Architecture
Your role in helping us shape the future:
You are a highly self-motivated leader who works collaborative across the organization to collaborate and build strong working relationships to solve difficult problems while your team develops and produces a new system architecture. You will lead motivate and manage the team in capturing and documenting system-level requirements and work to understand business needs and drive solutions and ensure that requirements are clear and architecture implementable. You will report to the Senior Vice President of Engineering.
Are you up to the challenge?
- You will take a broad view across the entire Intelsat system to harmonize functionality and ensure all components work correctly together
- Ensure that the team uses established processes for front end work; identify and promote improvements to that process
- Ensure the solution is capable of meeting its requirements in a cost-effective way
- Use technical and industry knowledge to identify optimal functional breakdown and minimize interface issues
- Work with vendors of components to understand their systems in depth to allow for functional definition and interface derivation
- Link up the team with component experts within the company to ensure architecture is aligned and understood
- Ensure team documents its work via whitepapers talks and formal requirements/designs that are reviewed and changed controlled.
- Provide opportunities for cross training and knowledge transfers
- Take a lead role or delegate the above activities as appropriate
- Coach and evaluate staff in the above activities
Can you drive these processes?
- Proven ability to understand complex systems comprised of communication computing and Internet technologies.
- Experience with Front end process flow; understanding of process inputs from Product Management and needed outputs to Development and Test
- Understanding of the artifacts to be produced by the team (requirements architecture) along what typically is and is not contained in those artifacts.
- General knowledge and understanding of the following areas sufficient to evaluate work products from the team:
- Web Service infrastructure
- Common Web protocols languages and Software Services such as TCP/IP HTTP Services (e.g. NGINX) Virtualization/Containerization
- Modern web service to client/application technologies.
- Network infrastructure such as routers gateways load balancers firewalls and deep packet inspection systems.
- Stateful/Stateless Firewall and NAT solutions.
- Wireless communication systems and protocols particularly WiFi and Satellite (GEO MEO LEO).
- Demonstrated ability to lead a senior level technical team
- Effective collaborator and communicator all at levels of the organization and with customers.
- Ability to aggregate organize and present complex technical information
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects efficiently.
You should definitely have:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum 5 years in a technical leadership position
- Minimum 15 years total technical experience in communications computing and/or web services role
It would be nice if you had:
- Masters/ Ph.D. in engineering telecommunications mathematics or related technical field required
