Cardiosense, a startup company, is revolutionizing the way patients are being monitored. Health care is currently undergoing a rapid transformation, with care moving from hospitals to the patient’s home, and let’s face it, legacy equipment and monitoring systems are clunky, out-dated, and simply not designed to adapt to this changing landscape.

Cardiosense is at the forefront of this new chapter in healthcare. Through decades of research, the Cardiosense team has uncovered novel methods of measuring cardiovascular parameters using wearable technology. We have partnered with physicians and researchers in prestigious universities and healthcare organizations to enable rapid iteration of device prototypes, putting us in a unique position to adapt to this changing landscape. We are committed to providing physicians with the data they need to make informed decisions to improve patient care.

As an embedded engineer at Cardiosense, you will be directly responsible for designing, constructing, programming, and testing wearable technologies. You will be working closely with hospital systems and other end-users to develop needs and refine the design of our devices. You will be attempting to optimize sensor quality, data flow, and power consumption to adapt to needs of both in-patient and at-home monitoring while adhering to quality management systems as dictated by the FDA.

Cardiosense offers a small team environment with a competitive employment package including equity. This position will have tremendous opportunity for growth and leadership as our company continues to scale. Our office is located in downtown Chicago with flexibility to work-from-home. We need a team player capable of wearing multiple hats and being flexible with their roles and responsibilities. Our ideal candidate will have experience designing and testing wireless embedded systems and a demonstrated interest in healthcare technology. They will be a self starter with the ability to work well both autonomously and as part of a growing team. And most importantly, they will be a continuous learner with a curiosity for wearable healthcare technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Meet with the end-users (physicians, nurses, patients) to develop requirements.
  • Run various testing scenarios to refine sensor design and improve signal acquisition.
  • Understand engineering and end-user needs to improve on current wearable devices, including sensor selection, PCB layout, firmware programming, power management, and wireless communication.
  • Develop testing protocol to satisfy FDA requirements
  • Maintain documentation to conform with quality management standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 3+ years of practical experience in embedded technologies
  • Exposure to, or interest in, cardiovascular physiology or wearable healthcare technologies
  • Proficiency in C programming and PCB design
  • Experience with wireless protocols (Bluetooth, Zigbee, Wifi, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of biosignals and/or signal processing techniques

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience involving biomedical research or technology
  • Deep understanding of cardiovascular physiology
  • Python experience
  • Experience with the analysis of biosignals or wearable technology data
  • Experience working in a startup environment, including taking responsibility for the completion of tasks and determining appropriate strategies for completion of tasks.
