Description
This position within Cat Electronics will support the development of embedded software for electronics control systems for diesel engine programs by testing and validating engine software, electrical systems, and engine-machine software interactions. You will serve as an experienced, individual contributor responsible for the design and validation of engine core and application software, controls, and diagnostics to enhance Caterpillar's product performance, durability, reliability, quality, and serviceability. The incumbent will aid in field service questions as well as respond to proving ground inquiries and lab support. This role is also expected to focus on continued creation and maintenance of HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) validation plans and automated testing.
Job Duties
Develop embedded software for electronics control systems by configurating, integrating and testing of software in a bench environment. This includes:
Test plan creation, execution, and documentation
Set-up and configuration of test bench hardware & software
Completion of mandatory and feature specific testing using manual and automated methods
Evaluate and support development of new product features
Provide customer support for machine system development
Understand customers' needs (machine & engine) and product application
Aid and potentially lead, troubleshooting of software or system defects
Support factory, engine lab, proving grounds, and customer start-ups
Communicate technical information to internal customers, team members and other process partners; and support and advise other engineers, managers, and internal customers.
Support and lead validation process improvements to aid in better quality and efficiency (i.e. automation and simulation)
Responsibilities of this position demand that the incumbent understand complex technical problems and demonstrate the ability to develop creative solutions. In addition to demonstrating technical expertise, a person in this position may be called on to act as a team or project leader but major focus is on technical delivery.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Mechanical Engineering
5 or more years of industry embedded software development or control systems experience
3 or more years of embedded software test experience using hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop equipment & techniques
Top Candidates will also have
8 or more years of industry embedded software development or control systems experience
Matlab/Simulink experience
C and Python language programming experience
Experience with the following tools: Git, Trace 32 Debugger, CANape, CANalyzer, Cat ET Service Tool, various data analysis tools.
Experience working with and troubleshooting electrical systems
Prior work experience with CAN/SAE J1939
Prior work experience with Engine or Machine software development
Prior work with configuration, integration, build and testing of embedded software on diesel engine systems
Knowledge of Diagnostic and Event Systems
Knowledge of Service tools, SuperCommII, Vector based development tools and displays
Python scripting knowledge would be beneficial
Demonstrated excellent analytical skills and the ability to perform complex assignments. A self-starter with strong technical leadership skills.
Must have ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well as other units, customers, and suppliers.
