Job Description:
The Large Power Systems Division currently has a newly formed Engineer position located in Mossville, IL. This new position will be accountable to provide plan and execute structural simulations of designs to validation the expanding portfolio of electrification cooling systems. Simulation-led design and validation is especially critical to enable robust product development for the fast-paced cooling electrification programs that include significant new content and complex system interactions.
The cooling structural analyst will execute planned simulations for electrification projects across various Caterpillar platforms. Primary responsibility is to use high-end finite element analysis (FEA) for virtual design and validation, contributing to the overall project plan. The analyst will provide analysis and simulation to develop and deploy technologies for battery / fuel cell thermal management.
The engineer must have good communication skills to effectively collaborate with various product development teams to deliver validated design solutions to our challenging program deliverables and timelines simultaneously. The position includes strong collaboration with our design, system, and validation partners.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Create and use FEA models either individually or in collaboration with supplier firms
- Log quality issues and arrange for corrections to models
- Contribute to and participate in peer reviews
- Perform model setup, submit jobs to high-performance computing cluster
- Perform simulations of static, modal, dynamic, and steady state heat transfer
- Develop understanding of design capacity for strength and fatigue
- Author reports containing assumptions, models and results
- Draw conclusions and make recommendations to design, system, and validation partners
- Contribute to improvements in simulation methods and processes
Basic Qualifications:
- The candidate shall have degree in engineering (mechanical, petroleum, marine, agricultural, or aerospace)
- Relevant engineering experience:
- Bachelor's degree: 3+ years
- Master's degree: 1+ year
- Doctorate degree
- 2+ years of FEA experience
- Strong background and interest in FEA theory and engineering mechanics
- Clear verbal and written communication skills
- Project management skills allowing for handling of multiple projects and priorities
Top Candidates will also have:
- Proficiency in Abaqus and Hypermesh and compute cluster environments
- Creo skill sufficient for finite element model preparation
- Experience in component interaction modeling, dynamic simulation, non-metallics and thermal simulation
- Knowledge of fabrication and casting processes
