The Power Electronics Design Engineer within the Advanced Power Products team will provide technical support for electric power conversion products. These products include power conversion systems (PCS) for machines and stationary energy storage such as battery chargers, bi-directional power converters and fuel cell inverters. The products aligned with this position support Caterpillar's continued electrification initiatives and expanded offerings across RI, CI, and E&T business segments.
JOB DUTIES:
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Design and release power conversion systems (PCS) including machine battery chargers, bi-directional power inverter for energy storage system (ESS) and fuel cell inverters for Caterpillar advanced power products.
- Meet cost, quality, and performance targets.
- Collaborate with supporting teams to develop an FMEA based validation plan.
Collaborate with suppliers to develop and/or select products for use within the power conversion product line.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited curriculum
- Experience with design and development of power electronics or power conversion systems
- 2+ years of relevant engineering work experience
- Strong communication skills - Oral and written complemented by the ability to develop/deliver technical presentations
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
- Master's degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited Curriculum
- Experience with new product introduction and FMEA based product development.
- Experience working with suppliers and purchasing to introduce a new product to market.
