JOB PURPOSE:
To lead a global cross-functional team of mechanical, electrical, thermal and simulation engineers as well as work with purchasing, quality and contract manufacturing partners to ensure the successful delivery of a power electronics inverter platform to a production ready state for a Caterpillar mobile machine or stationary power application.
JOB DUTIES:
The Engineering Project Team Leader - Power Electronics Platform Lead is a major contributor on a multifunctional, worldwide CPPD team responsible for development of a power electronics component for vehicles or power systems. In addition to demonstrating a mastery of engineering concepts, this position is expected to lead a project or program to completion, delivering on quality, time and cost commitments while meeting client and business requirements. Directing work with other business units, suppliers, customers and teams will require the incumbent to demonstrate skill in identifying team building, tradeoffs analysis, negotiation, building consensus and achieving compromise. Impact of decisions made by this position may be far-reaching, to include the project team or immediate work group, division and/or business unit, suppliers, internal and external customers, and Caterpillar markets. Decisions may significantly impact warranty, patents, products or processes, technology, costs, sales and customer perceptions. Strong communication, technical leadership, project management and business management skills are essential. Major challenges facing incumbents are guiding and leading a cross-functional team to ensure the holistic development of power electronic components. This position must demonstrate the ability to develop and manage a complex project to plan.
Key areas of responsibility encountered in this role may include any or all of the following: design and promote new products and processes; contribute to establishing strategies for new process and product programs; develop and manage the project/program to the plan; perform needs analysis and initiate ideas; evaluate new products and/or processes, perform product/process maintenance; keep up to date on new technologies or develop new technologies; communicate technology to customers, team members, suppliers and other units; support and advise other engineers, managers, marketing personnel, customers and suppliers, mentor, coach and develop others, represent company externally.
Basic Requirements:

  • Accredited engineering degree
  • Excellent project management skills
  • 8 years of experience
  • Extensive understanding of complex engineering concepts and applications
  • Thorough knowledge of component development
  • Working knowledge of power electronics, power conversion and inverter/converter design

  • Demonstrated technical leadership skills
  • Team development experience
  • Ability to communicate technical and project information effectively with team members and others in the global work group, as well employees in other units, customers and suppliers.
  • Power electronics development experience
  • Completion of at least 1 cycle through the Caterpillar NPI process

  • This position is located in Mossville, IL.
  • 10-20% travel required within this position.
