Electric Drive Validation is an exciting job opportunity, and this technology continues to expand to new product lines. Future electric drive programs will continue to provide customers with machines that do more work and consume less fuel, while providing customers with lower owning and operating costs.
JOB PURPOSE:
The Electric Drive Validation - Engineering Specialist-Dev/Res leads lab testing of advanced drivetrain components and systems at the Caterpillar Global R&D Headquarters as part of new product development programs or continuous product improvement projects.
JOB DUTIES:
The key role of an Engineering Specialist is that of an experienced individual contributor to projects or assignments that are sufficiently large and complex as to often be shared with one or two other engineers and/or technologists.
This position will be responsible for:
- Leading efforts for the specification, build, and commissioning of new test stands.
- Defining program validation requirements.
- Performing lab tests to validate components / systems.
- Analyzing test data
- Communicate results and making recommendations to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units
- Identifying and troubleshooting hardware and software issues
- Validating and implementing product solutions
- Documenting findings in technical reports.
- Mentoring and assisting others to fully contributing engineers
- Develop and maintain technical expertise in Electric Drive Validation
Success factors for the Engineering Specialist role are strong communication skills, an understanding of customers' needs and product and process application, and ability to manage priorities. Major challenges facing incumbents are keeping up to date with technology, developing increased technical breadth and/or depth of one's own specialty, being very innovative yet able to convert concepts to reality, beginning to think strategically, and paying attention to business needs.
Basic Requirements:
- Requires a bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum plus 9+ years of engineering experience or a master's degree in an Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum plus 7 years of engineering experience.
- Excellent analytical skills
- Self-starter with strong technical leadership skills
- Previous powertrain product development experience (design, test, or analysis).
- Demonstrated ability to work on complex assignments.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude and understanding of mechanical systems
- Understanding of electrical systems
- Good hands on and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication and meeting facilitation background
- Ability to work with others in a team-based environment
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
- Experience with data analysis tools
- Experience with data acquisition systems
- Experience working in a lab test facility
- Experience with electric drive systems and/or components
- Experience with Caterpillar NPI and CPI systems
