The Position:
We are currently seeking a Battery Engineering Specialist to join the Advanced Power Products Battery Simulation and BMS Control Team. This team is focused on developing, calibrating and validating battery simulation models and the BMS control strategies across a range of battery systems for a variety of Caterpillar and 3rd Party applications.
The successful candidate will lead the Battery Simulation discipline as well as being an experienced contributor and coach on projects and assignments that are complex in nature, working with individuals and teams across multiple business units in the UK, US and India.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
As a Battery Engineering Specialist you will be responsible for the simulation activities within the team as well as contributing as an individual within the simulation and controls space. This will involve:

  • Working with customers to understand the simulation requirements to support all related activities
  • Liaising with the wider software team to align the delivery and requirements of simulation and HIL models
  • Managing the simulation activities within the team - including performance, development, application, HIL


You will be expected to:

  • Contribute to the identification, analysis, and resolution of needs and problems in your discipline
  • Deliver Technical solutions to cost and time
  • Communicate tailored technical information to internal and external customers, team members, and suppliers


  • Develop and maintain a keen understanding of internal and external customers' needs
  • Lead a team of cross-functional Engineers delivering the simulation capabilities of the team


Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles :

  • Accredited Bachelor's / Master's degree in a relevant engineering subject - i.e. Engineering, Computer Science
  • A passion to further grow and share your skills within a friendly, interactive and innovative engineering team
  • Self-starter with problem solving and project management skills
  • Experience in developing and reporting against requirements
  • Ability to develop and execute delivery plans


  • Experienced in different software validation methodologies and plant modelling i.e. HIL, embedded code
  • Experienced in analysing complex system performance
  • Strong experience with Matlab/Simulink/SimScape
  • Good communicator who can coach and lead others
  • An understanding of Lithium-ion batteries would be highly beneficial


Additional information:

  • This position is located in Mossville IL/Peterborough, UK
  • Up to 20% travel likely.
