Job Description
The Internal IT Engineering Manager will manage the team that owns, builds, and maintains tools and infrastructure that directly impact the productivity of our Etsy employees. We’re looking for people who excel at working with others, challenge the status quo, and are extraordinary problem-solvers. We value clear communication, honest feedback, and empathy for others.
What you will do:
- You will work closely and build cross-functional relationships to understand and communicate strategy and direction so that the team priorities and efforts align with company objectives.
- You will create and manage short-term strategy, roadmaps, and budget from a functional, architecture, and technology perspective.
- You will cultivate a strong engineering and delivery culture within your team, responsible for delivering business results with the right quality and in a timely fashion.
- You will provide technical guidance to the team as they work to establish their own engineering practices, build automations that directly mitigate repeatable challenges, advocate to increase process efficiency related to those systems across Etsy, and provide engineering assistance for our office network infrastructure worldwide.
- You will hold your own in technical discussions, be a subject matter expert, and have strategic influence.
- You will help your team identify opportunities for reducing toil and avoiding technical debt to reduce operations load on the team.
- You will help grow the team with collaboration, processes, and workflows.
- You will create, maintain, refine, monitor, measure, and evaluate the success of key metrics and regularly report on those.
- You will recruit and onboard diverse top talent to the group and work with retention.
Qualifications
Who you are:
- You have 5+ years of experience in engineering and engineering management, including coaching, performance management, and agile development.
- You bring both technical acuity and leadership skills to create a strong culture of quality and foster an environment where engineers have the tools and frameworks they need.
- You keep learning and always seek to improve yourself and your team. You are curious about new opportunities and act to explore them.
- You lead with empathy through empowering engineers on your team and asking questions, not dictating solutions.
- You are an excellent communicator who interfaces well with technical and non-technical partners across the organization.
- You focus on the intricate details without losing the bigger picture and are able to become intimately acquainted with our Internal IT ecosystem.
- You understand that being an effective engineer is as much about communicating with people and understanding the problem to be solved as it is about writing code..
- You believe in documentation and knowledge-sharing with others.
- You are passionate about your customer's experience.
- You are resilient to change and uncertainty.
