The Manager, Core Software Development leads the design, development, test and deployment of projects and features that are consistent with the strategic vision through the management of a team of Software Engineers and contract resources. Work requires an established background in the development of core financial system software solutions, agile software development methodology, practical project delivery experience, and the ability to achieve results in a fast-paced environment. Deep, working knowledge of credit union financial core platforms is essential. General direction is received from the Sr. Manager, Software Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Serve as core banking subject matter expert to the enterprise, accurately representing the features, limitations, and needs of core technology as well as the core's potential to achieve necessary business outcomes.
- Lead engineering team delivery against committed timelines, scope, and third-party dependencies
- Guide internal customers through request intake, resource prioritization, and SDLC to facilitate smooth, predictable interactions between technology and lines of business
- Collaborate with peers throughout technology to ensure cross-team dependencies are understood and effectively addressed
- Negotiate balanced, timely solutions with competing requirements around timeline constraints, information security, risk management, and regulatory compliance
- Serve as a primary liaison to customers, facilitating communication within all technology groups
- Instill software quality best practice to ensure stable, maintainable, defect-free software delivery
- Guide ongoing SDLC and team process evolution and maturity
- Ensure team compliance with information security, access management, change management, and risk management policies
- Monitor, plan, and budget for development platform capacity and performance considerations
- Manage vendor relationships with service providers
- Report team delivery status, risks, issues, and key metrics to stakeholders across the organization
- Facilitate collaboration between architects, product owners, and engineers to drive sound solution design
- Maintain continuous on-call production support coverage for all core technical platforms
- Track technical debt accumulation and advocate for necessary resources and plans to maintain platform stability and relevance
- Serve as primary scrum team escalation point to efficiently remove any obstacles that impede team delivery objectives
- Understand and advocate for the unique environments, access, data, processes, and working conditions required for successful core solution delivery
- Partner with scrum masters and product owners to provide agile/scrum expertise and coaching for team members
- Oversee team execution against established SDLC processes to ensure all deliverables meet company development standards
- Stay informed on core banking technology, product roadmaps, and upcoming vendor features
Adhere to and ensure compliance of all business transactions with policy and process of the Bank Secrecy Act. Comply with Privacy Act directives and all other applicable state and federal laws, company procedures and policies. Maintain integrity and ethics in all actions and conversations with or regarding credit union members and their accounts

Qualifications
- High School degree or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in a computer technology field preferred, or a minimum 3 years leading software delivery projects within the financial industry
- Minimum 5 years' experience with credit union financial core software, required. Familiarity with Symitar Episys strongly preferred
- Minimum 3 years' experience leading custom application development projects, required
- Minimum 3 years' leadership experience, required
- Demonstrable experience working in a SCRUM/Agile development framework. Experience with Structured Agile Framework (SAFe) strongly preferred
- Deep expertise planning and executing software quality processes to ensure defect-free code and safe, well-considered software deployment planning
- Experience working within the ITIL Development framework including incident, service, problem, and change management processes and procedures preferred
- Well organized and detail oriented
- Demonstrated ability to successfully manage competing priorities
- Excellent relationship management and customer service skills
- Self-motivated and able to deliver to strict schedules, as well as work with and incorporate input from other areas
- Highly effective written and oral communication skills, including translating complex technical concepts and issues into effective business cases for non-technical audiences required
- Solid analytic skills required
- Group facilitation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills required
