Manager, RF/RAN Engineering
Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer including Vets and Disabled
Your role in helping us shape the future:
Lead engineers in the growth and design of satellite radio access networks providing internet access to airlines and their aircraft fleets worldwide. Improve and build on the process used to meet the network standards in the design and growth of capacity for satellite networks using GEO, MEO and LEO satellites in Ku and Ka frequency bands. This includes satellite selection, transponder management, maintaining regulatory requirements, and refining aircraft antenna system requirements to meet coverage and capacity requirements. Continue to develop team processes, methods, and concepts within Gogo's Connectivity System to meet and exceed performance goals.
Are you up to the challenge?
- Manage a team in the planning and RF design of satellite radio networks meeting coverage, capacity and cost requirements over a multiyear time horizon.
- Design responsibility includes satellite selection, transponder management, maintaining regulatory requirements, and refining aircraft antenna system requirements to meet coverage and capacity requirements.
- Develop capacity requirements for satellite networks by evaluating actual usage along with forecasted demand based on expected growth and various aircraft connectivity feature support and end user application performance.
- Ensure link budgets properly analyze beam performance based on aircraft remote and transponder capabilities. Link budgets models for propagation and corresponding MODCOD performance should be updated with actual link performance on an annual basis.
- Develop and maintain coverage and performance maps needed to identify discrete service areas defined by satellite beams in the Gogo network considering technical and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct research projects to improve and standardize the design process used by the entire department. Interact with network performance and system engineering departments to continually improve the efficiency and effectiveness of network design practices.
- Manage various satellite vendors to facilitate new satellite development, technical implementations and cost based on market knowledge.
- Support generation of terms and conditions along with price negotiations for satellite service contracts involving the leasing of bandwidth for use as a part of connectivity services.
- Understand and maintain regulatory requirements for satellite systems on a country basis.
- Lead development regional Opex requirements for leasing of satellite spectrum needed to support data demand. Provide support material to teleport and infrastructure team to plan and provision for satellite capacity
- Leadership of small to mid-sized teams, to include teams with customer and subcontractor team members.
- Recruit and maintain highly technical team of RF and Radio Access engineers.
You should definitely have:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related technology.
- A minimum of 10-years of relevant experience in the satellite and/or telecommunications industry
- Expertise in satellite GEO link budget analysis and Ku satellite systems gained from hands on professional experience.
- Strong technical competency in the following areas:
- Satellite systems design and link budgets
- Ku satellite remotes and DVB-s2 and 2x modem systems or equivalent functionality
- Understanding of electromagnetics/physics for the development of realizable antenna/RF designs.
- Demonstrated leadership ability and ability to work well in cross-functional teams.
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written, including technical documentation, written reports and proposals, development and delivery of presentations and the ability to listen to and communicate effectively with colleagues, customers and vendors.
It would be nice if you had:
- Advanced degree in electrical engineering or related technology or MBA in addition to minimum education requirement.
- Experience managing engineering professionals
