The Packaging Engineer will be embedded in the Research & Development organization and work cross-functionally to design and deliver primary and secondary packaging for innovation, renovation, sustainability, and continuous improvement initiatives across multiple product categories. This person must be analytical, organized, a strong communicator, and looking to be part of an exciting, fast-paced, and innovative company.

General Functions + Responsibilities:

  • Lead packaging development and performance testing projects from concept to commercialization with minimal oversight in a fast-paced environment
  • Lead technical R&D research projects related to packaging, including primary packaging material optimization for existing products, as well as scouting and evaluating packaging structures for new product categories
  • Collaborate with partners in Quality, Marketing, R&D, Supply Chain, external suppliers and equipment vendors, manufacturers, and business partners to innovate new packaging formats that delight consumers, constantly pushing the boundaries and protecting product quality
  • Create/update packaging material and assembly specifications; partner with Supply Chain Packaging engineer
  • Implement project plans against timeline, create trial protocols, lead packaging piece for plant trials, and conduct/analyze all tests to ensure successful delivery of quality standards

Skills & Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in Package Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or related field with 2+ years of experience in packaging development and commercialization (food industry experience strongly preferred)
  • Skilled in closures, flexible, and rigid packaging; willing/able to learn new product categories and/or processing/packaging areas and respective equipment
  • Flexible Packaging Association and/or Institute of Packaging Professionals membership a benefit
  • Understands ingredient functionality and interrelationship of ingredients, process, and packaging
  • Skilled in Design of Experiments, data analysis, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Willing to travel
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a great team player with a service mindset
