Summary

Hyatt is currently seeking a Platform Operations Engineer to provide technical support for Hyatt.com and its backend applications. The ideal person for this position is skilled and passionate about solving technical problems while focusing on the guest experience.

The Platform Operations team is responsible for the daily support and maintenance of the Hyatt.com production and test environments. The team ensures Hyatt.com is operating within expected page response time, error rates, and availability. Team members report incidents and problems to both internal Hyatt Business and Product Owners as well as external vendors. Platform Operations works closely with the development team and third party vendors to identify and resolve critical production issues.  Additionally, the team supports the Content Management Systems used to display digital assets on Hyatt.com. Also, the team works with the Platform Engineering team on test and production deployments using Agile methodologies. Team members collaborate to establish new technical operational strategies in cooperation with hosting vendors and internal technology teams. Individuals with an “automate everything” mentality will thrive in Platform Operations, where there is a strong push to automate operational procedures, deployments, and repeatable tasks.

The Platform Operations Engineer will report to the Manager, Platform Operations at Hyatt’s corporate offices located in downtown Chicago.

Primary Responsibilities:

Provide Tier 3 Production 24x7 on-call support (rotation)

Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for website and applications

Install, configure, and maintain web or middleware applications

Remediate all Security Vulnerabilities related to web and application software

Perform software releases using established automated procedures

Automate repeatable and frequent operational processes and procedures

Participate in Change, Incident, and Problem management including Root Cause Analysis

Improve and document operational and troubleshooting procedures

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

3+ years experience hands on production application support in Linux environment

2+ years experience with modern web and mobile application environments (TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, routing, load balancing, CDNs, WAF security, etc)

2+ years experience with Bash, Python, Perl or similar scripting language

Experience with Docker or other container based platform

Experience with Ansible and Salt Stack or similar configuration management tools

Experience with Stash/Bitbucket, SVN, or similar code repository tool

Experience with web application technologies including HTML, JavaScript, Node.js, Nginx, React

Working knowledge of incident, problem, and change management best practices

Strong business and technical acumen being able to effectively communicate with others

Strong organizational and prioritization skills

Desired Qualifications:

Large scale eCommerce industry experience

Experience with the implementation and management of procedures in a technical operations environment, including managing and reporting on quality and operational metrics

Experience in the creation and/or execution of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans

Experience with APIs, service-oriented architecture (SOA), and microservices

Experience configuring Nagios or similar monitoring tool

Experience with Splunk and creating queries and dashboards

Experience with DataDog or similar Application Performance Monitoring (APM) tool

Experience with Kubernetes or similar container orchestration tool

Experience with Jenkins or similar CI/CD tool

Experience with Kafka or similar data streaming tool

Experience with Rabbit MQ or similar messaging tool

Experience with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), 6.x

Working knowledge of databases and ability to write SQL queries

Bachelor of Science degree preferred

Preferred candidate is passionate about the hospitality industry

The Hyatt Corporate Office is located along the Chicago River within Chicago's Loop neighborhood. It is close to train stations, bus stops, restaurants and nightlife.
