Job Description
The DNA (Data and Analytics) department is looking for a Principal Software Engineer – Full Stack to work with Software & Data Engineers and Cloud experts in their R&D Team. As part of the team, Principal Software Engineer will research, develop, secure and enhance full stack solutions on our Cloud Data Platform. This role will also mentor a team of engineers responsible for building solutions.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has the ability to prioritize well, communicate clearly and has a consistent track record of delivery. Must be able to work across multiple facets of the project and juggle multiple responsibilities at the same time.
Responsibilities
- Create various prototypes for research and development purposes.
- Document and present methodology inside and outside the company.
- Partner with our Software Engineering department to build best-of-class cloud-based analytical solutions
- Provide architectural recommendations, solution and approach given tradeoffs and ability to communicate that to the business.
- Design, write and test modules for Discover Analytics platforms using Python, R, SQL, Spark, and AWS products.
- Enhance Data Engineering capability through coaching, mentoring and leadership
- Collaborate with other Data Engineer Anchors & Application Development groups in the org to learn and share best practices and techniques
- Provide technical leadership in an enterprise environment to ensure delivery of exceptional technical solutions.
- Drive Thought-Leadership on engineering and architectural practices and standards.
- Develops and maintains complex front-ends with a focus on user experience
- Develops and maintains backend systems
- Uses holistic knowledge of all products in the team’s ecosystem to plan how new systems will be built and integrated
- Innovates on and advocates for best practices and improved processes within the team and with internal partners; stays up to date with technology trends and innovations; mentors team members
- Creates and maintains DevOps processes, application infrastructure, and utilizes cloud services (including database systems and models)
- Supports live systems to ensure business continuity
Required Skills
At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field
• 8+ years of experience in Computer Science, Information Technology or related experience
• In lieu of degree, 10+ years of experience in Computer Science, Information Technology or related experience
Desired Skills
If we had our say, we’d also look for:
- Experience as part of an Agile engineering or development team
- Strong hands-on experience on AWS architecture, AWS Services and AWS Security.
- Strong OpenShift/kubernetes Experience.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented principles with an ability to write clean code
- Strong experience working with a relational database and NoSQL database
- Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins or similar; Git/GitHub; Artifactory
- Proven skills in high availability and scalability design, as well as performance monitoring
- Experience developing and implementing API service architecture
- Experience in working in a cloud environment such as AWS, GCP or Azure.
- Understanding of messaging systems like MQ, Rabbit MQ, Kafka, or Kinesis.
- Strong experience of developing multi-threaded and synchronization application
- Build secure web applications with user authentication
- Understanding of software testing principles and methodologies
