In this role as a Senior Director, Software Engineering you will be responsible for building strategic relationships with our key partners such as Amazon and Walmart. You will be developing, best in industry, user experiences that enable frictionless checkout conversion and scaling integration of our partners into new global markets. The ideal candidate will be passionate about fostering a culture of innovation, unafraid to roll up their sleeves with engineers to achieve technical excellence with a proven track record of delivering results. 

What you'll do

  • Set the vision and execute on technology roadmap - Collaborate with Product, Commercial and Foundational engineering teams to envision and execute on ambitious ideas and build practical technology capabilities needed to realize the vision. Drive clarity from ambiguity to aid faster decisions grounded on principles. 
  • Develop and measure Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) to improve KPIs for platform resilience, developer experience and time to market. 
  • Participate in quarterly planning and work closely with peers and teams to remove impediments, articulate tradeoffs and garner resources 
  • Build the best team - Grow globally minded teams by attracting and hiring diverse talent and build a strong leadership bench. Provide tailored coaching,  mentoring  for Engineering managers and inspire a team of full stack engineers
  • Demonstrate humility to admit mistakes and grow from failures and build a culture of continuous improvement

What we look for

  • Demonstrated experience in architecting, building and scaling platforms and distributed systems that require high availability, resilience and  meeting stringent SLO objectives is required. 
  • Experience with developing and maintaining external facing APIs and developer portals is required
  • Experience with streaming APIs and data analytics is preferred
  • Experience in building and leading geographically dispersed teams in a leadership capacity with a minimum of 5+ years being a manager of managers is required 
  • Experience with Fintech, Retail industries  for both B2C and B2B (merchants/affiliates)  marketing and personalization capabilities is desirable.

We are currently building operations in Spain, Poland, and Australia.  Employees in remote roles have the option of working remotely or from an Affirm office in their country of hire, and may occasionally travel to an Affirm office or elsewhere for required meetings or team-building events. Our offices in Chicago, New York, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City, San Francisco and Toronto will remain operational and accessible for anyone to use on a voluntary basis, subject to local COVID-19 guidelines.
