Description
As a Senior Manager, Digital Architecture with Cat Digital Division this position will serve as a change sponsor, consultant and company expert in Digital Technologies where decisions and recommendations are recognized as authoritative and that have an important impact on Digital Strategy and business outcomes.

JOB DUTIES:
This global leadership role is recognized, both within Caterpillar and within the industry, as the authoritative expert in digital technologies. At this level, individuals must demonstrate innovation, creativity, foresight and mature judgment as they anticipate and solve unprecedented business problems, understand program objectives and requirements, guide programs and projects, and have accountability for enterprise architecture.
Key areas of responsibility will include some or all of the following:
- Lead of a team of System Engineers and Architect focusing on evaluation and integration of the latest Open Source and 3rd party software solutions and components into Cat Digital products and services.
- Hands-on in-depth experience with complex Open Source and 3rd party solutions
- Create a compelling Digital vision, communicate and influence customers, dealers, team members, suppliers, business units and industry experts towards that shared vision
- Own the Open Source and 3rd party integration and evaluation architecture roadmap and new digital technology adoption
- Deliver systems, architectures and plan for evolving legacy n-tier applications to cloud native architectures
- Responsible for driving cyber-security and compliance related policies and methods in the team
- Responsible for relationship with technology partners
- Look ahead and strategize for next 3-5 years of digital transformation
- Mentor and develop others
Decisions made at this level are far reaching and affect the teams with whom they consult, Caterpillar business and Digital strategy. Decisions may have significant impact on things such as strategic vendor relationships, transformational programs, system architecture, sales and customer perception. Some of the key challenges facing this position are: leveraging knowledge to others; balancing short-term thinking against long-term strategy; developing strategic partners; delivering state-of-the-art solutions, architecture, and research projects as well as consistently acting in a proactive manner to advance Digital Technology strategy.

An individual in this role is expected to manage the body of knowledge used in developing deep expertise. The Principle Digital Architect owns global knowledge management for the digital functional area.
Technical leadership skills and ability to concept and sell ideas is paramount at this level. This position must not only keep up to date on Digital and Information Technology trends but can apply that technology as well. This position must manage their own development, continuously learning through experience and staying abreast or ahead of technology. Technical skill development will focus on technology time/cost analysis, risk analysis and problem solving, and development of acceptance or test criteria. They must consider the impacts and nature of their technologies within the scope of a global business. Building relationships with other Digital, IT and Technology personnel, both in and out of Caterpillar, is important.
Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.
Qualifications
Typically, this position will require an accredited Information Technology degree or a closely related technical degree with at least 15-20 years of experience. An advanced degree is highly desired. Progressively related experience and recognition as a company expert is necessary.
Basic Requirements:
- Strong demonstratable in-depth hands-on experience in integrating and evaluating Open Source and 3rd Party software products.
- Strong expertise in managing highly technical System Engineering teams delivering product and/or enterprise architecture for enterprise scale solutions in public cloud and hybrid eco-systems.
- Must have in-depth understanding and experience in two or more of the following: massive real-time event and message processing, data lakes, Big Data transformations and analytics, complex e-commerce applications, IoT edge and cloud data processing, SQL and NoSQL data modeling
- Strong understanding of Agile SDLC implementation in public cloud eco-system including environments management, test automation, peer review, CI/CD, resource optimization, etc.
- Must have excellent communication skills and be able to deal with sensitive issues, mentor and coach and/or persuade others on new technologies, new applications, or potential solutions.
Top Candidates will have:
- Open source projects contribution is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with ML and data analytics
- Understanding of enterprise data integration and analytical platform
